Send down divers with amazingly strong net to roll our under massive chunks of the plastic flotilla. When done, hook it all up on four aircraft carriers, pull taut to drain.Drop down a net cover. Then attach the four corners of the flotilla chunk to rockets and send up to go in orbit around the earth, the mostly gray-white mess will reflect back the suns rays stopping some of the effects of alleged global warming; The sun will eventually burn up the debris which will go back into space dust.

Synthetic rubber micro-particles from car tire wear are transported by flowing waters to the oceans. That alone is a HUGE problem.

There is NO toxicity to plastic no matter how fine the particles, you will just shit that stuff out like fiber.

Turning plastic back into oil is well established. This video is kind of crude, but it shows how it's done. There are better facilities at work.

Why aren't there trawlers cruising the pacific plastic patch, scooping up the plastic and filtering the water for small particles and then processing it all back into oil??????? Even if it wasn't commercially successful for oil sales, which I don't know, we should at least do it to clean the oceans up. The oceans are OUR responsibility

Plastic is inert and recyclable, there is no problem with plastic, plastic molecules are also produced by nature.
The only thing plastic disturbs is the stupid sense of sensitive people.

"As Slat points out, only 3 percent of the plastics in his team's current surveys are microplastics. Most pieces are still large enough to easily fish out — for now.

"This is what scares me most," Slat says. "What will happen over the next few decades is that these large objects will start breaking down into these small and dangerous microplastics, increasing the amount of microplastics dozens of times — unless we clean it up. We must defuse this ticking time-bomb."

This kid should be on the team to figure it out. He was 16 when he came up with the current idea that is being used.

Exactly.

We could ban plastic use in the U.S. today and the oceans would still be fucked just because of places like China and India alone.

This isn't even going into all the other pollutants that go into the oceans with no regulation or oversight, or hitting out at the other types of polluters out there like Russia who doesn't have a plastic waste problem but rather they've managed to irradiate half the fucking planet and their entire country.

The U.S. and our history of polluting is right up there with the worst offenders as well.

1st Don't believe everything you read about plastic
2nd Give it time it will take care of it's self.
3rd Worry about yourself and what you do and STOP pushing other people in a direction they do not want to go unless you can PROVE harm to yourself or family...

Use satellite technology to identify the nations that are dumping plastic in the ocean, then threaten to bomb their capital if they do it again.

But plastic is just oil and it ALL came from the Earth to begin with. Why would the Earth not be able to deal with it?
Regarding the floating island, why not surround it with a floating net and manuver it to one of the Hawian volcanoes where lava is hitting the water and feed it in to be incinerated?

Plutonium also ultimately came from the Earth and yet it's a terrible poison. Of course the Earth will deal with it. The problem is that human kind may not last that long.

This /\ is step one,

Step two is remove the large pieces of plastic from all the worlds oceans.

Step 3 is removing the small pieces

Step 4 is coming up with some kind of algae of plankton that can trap the plastic, then we can scoop it out dry and incinerate it, or have the GM algae encase the plastic in some kind of silica so it will sink with the sand.

Plutonium is extremely rare and is a BY PRODUCT of fission reactions. So it is mostly a MAN MADE element.
