Congress does not have a right to anything protected by executive privilege. The SC has upheld executive privilege consistently throughout the decades. The "obstruction of congress" article is completely bunk.

It's akin to a cop reading you your miranda rights, and then charging you with obstruction of justice when you don't answer any questions.

We have definitely veered off the tracks of normalcy, because no one ever considered the idea of impeaching a POTUS in the House, but never sending the articles to the Senate.

Why would anyone consider that? Why would they need rules for such an occasion? It's a completely absurd idea that totally undermines any claim of "fairness" "due process" "bipartisan" "urgency" during this whole process (which has lasted all of 12 weeks).

This is something a child does. Ram somehthing through as quick as possible because it's the most important thing in the world, then sit on it and delay.

From what I heard yesterday, and there were numerous guesses, they can still hold the trial BUT without the articles it’s just a empty verdict

We are in uncharted waters, that is for sure.

What I do know is that the Speaker of the House has no right (by constitutional law, congressional rule, or precedent) to demand anything from the Senate. In fact, by demanding that the Senate be "fair" she is impugning all 100 senators directly and (if it were me) I would immediately move to censure Pelosi immediately.

This isn't political maneuvering like a filibuster or anything like that. This is a politically motivated disregard for the laws, rules, and precedent of our federal gov't. Hell, I could make a case that by holding these articles indefinitely Pelosi should be charged with dereliction of duty.

I did watch it, it was outstanding, Clay Higgen's protest was a very close second.

Pelosi is I think smart enough to realize that she can at any moment give Schiff over to a mile-long conga line of butt rapists as a sacrificial lamb if she needs to but she is waiting until it is even him or her.

The clock and the Calendar are cruel masters, as Jim Jordan likes to say, Pelosi is playing for time and has months to shield herself alone from the fallout that will come from this.

1) Adam Schiff illegally got the telephone records of the president's lawyer, Rudy Guiliani, journalist John Solomen, and republican congressman Devin Nunes and included them in his impeachment report; opening a huge can of worms for Pelosi. If those articles go to the senate it will be Schiff's actions on trial and the president's lawyers will be allowed to cross-examine Schiff on the witness stand even if he is one of the house managers sent to present their case for impeachment. What Schiff did was almost just as bad as the FBI's electronic surveillance of the Trump campaign and Pelosi knows it was so bad that Schiff refused to show up before the Judiciary committee to submit his report.

Sending the articles of impeachment to the senate would ensure everything Schiff has done would become the CenterPoint of the Senate trial.

2) The Democrats' case is barely strong enough to put to paper because Schiff failed to use all the powers of the courts to compel the White House to provide the witnesses Schiff says he wanted to appear in his secret sex dungeon beneath the capital building. Schiff also screwed up by refusing to allow White House counsel to attend advise and defend any member of the Trump administration Schiff had on his shortlist to grill like a hotdog at an Ed Buck costume party.
