Also Ridgecrest CA is acting up again. It had a 7.1 a few months ago and just had a 3.5 last week. Now Cascadia...something big is brewing.

I live in So Cal earthquake country but my house is small and made of wood, no brick or stones, so I'm pretty safe. Let it rock.

I would say that's correlation. Kind of a big deal but you wont find much about this.

Remember the pattern leading up to the 2011 Sendai quake. 2 foreshocks of 6 mag 2 days out, a 7 the day before, then a 9.1

PORT HARDY, BC — Five earthquakes struck off the coast of Vancouver Island on Monday, including two 6.0 magnitude earthquakes at 11:49 a.m. and 12:56 p.m.

In the same area, a 5.7 magnitude quake struck at 11:13 a.m. And a 5.2 earthquake was recorded at 8:40 a.m. Then at 3:38 p.m. on Monday, a 4.7 quake registered in the same vicinity.

There are "no tsunami concerns expected" for the Washington coast, according to the National Weather Service.

The quakes were centered around 315 miles northwest of Tofino, Canada, or roughly 630 miles from Seattle.

I've been anticipating cascadia rupturing this last week in December for months...like at least a 9.6 or higher

Of course probably nothing will happen...we have had these clusters and tides and moon and planetary alignments before, but still just maybe

I have purpose held off on some investments just in case since after the us west coast is wiped out these investments will be on fire sale

Cascadia will almost certainly trigger san Andreas as well and all the other minor faults...Hayward and Seattle faults

Definitely seems to be more seismic activity on the West Coast than in the last 20 years.

Last period like this was when they had Loma Prieta in 1989 and Northridge in 1994. I lived in CA at the time and there were many 5 pluses that I felt during that period as well (Whittier, Landers).

And then this century....pretty much nothing. Until the Ridgecrest earthquake sequence and now seems like we are going back to a period of increased earthquake activity like the late 80s and early 90s.

Quakes are pretty normal on the edge of the Juan de Fuca plate, but these ones are in the middle of the plate between the edges. Only the last one a 4.7 was near the subduction fault. There was another swarm of moderate quakes in the area during the summer. I have family in Port Hardy. They didn't feel a thing because it's too far offshore. But this pattern plus the changes in the slow quake pattern the past few years makes me think it's building for a major rupture. Frankie put out a video last week warning of a big one coming "anytime soon" for Vancouver and Vancouver Island so I'm paying attention. This city is so unprepared. The earthquake preparedness plan here is "hide under your desk or a table until the shaking stops". That's it. We're so fucked if this goes off.

these little swarms off Port Hardey happen every 2-3 years. one day something may happen but this recent event is actually kinda normal

as for those saying when Cascadia goes, so does Yellowstone and the CA faults ... take a look at dates of major volcanoes & EQs ... there is zero correlation that when Cascadia, or YS or CA went off before none of the others did ... well, geologic time, maybe ... like decades later

Yeah, pretty normal but they usually happen in the 4-5 range on the outer edge of the plate and there was just another swarm in the 6 range about 6 months ago. That's not normal.

Swarms in this area definitely happen—it was the size of the earthquakes in this one (and so close together) that was unusual.

There was one swarm earlier this year, in February, but the largest was closer to a 5 than a 6. This sequence 4 over a 5 and two at 6–as everyone who follows earthquakes here knows, the difference between a 5 and 6 is huge.

(For those not in an earthquake zone, if you feel a 5 you think “that’s interesting”. If you feel a 6, you think “oh shit” and you head for a doorway or under a table.

The slow quake pattern used to be like clockwork every 14 months, but for the past few years they stopped following the pattern, happening outside of the 14 month window. The quakes yesterday are also not where they usually happen and bigger than the normal swarms.

If you’re not familiar with the “triangle of life” position? You may want to look into it. This will give you more of a chance of getting through an EQ.

Conventional wisdom suggests you hide under tables in the middle of a room or in doorways etc. Don’t do this, doorways for example are a weak point, as are stair wells.

The same establishment hiding all the truths are the ones pushing this. *think for yourself.
