1999 NEW YEAR's EVE - WHERE WERE YOU?

working an event that hosted the band Kansas. by the time they played there wasn't any work to do so i got to hang and watch 'em jam out.

They were on their 6th "old fogeys" tour even then I bet

I was intentionally trying to stay home & not go out partying. Needed to decompress & Y2K had too much potential. My mortal enemy came to my house to try & drag me out for some festivities, & we began drinking beer. We got really shitfaced & found an audio file of the jivetalking track from the movie Airplane. My "enemy" (don't ask) ran it through an echo filter on my computer & kept tinkering with effects. We kept drinking & he kept fiddling with this silly soundtrack blasting it over my surround sound speakers. The drunker we got the funnier it sounded. Laughed so much it hurt.

We stumbled out & drunk-drove to some mixers at various bars flirting with pretty gals & the rest of the night was one big drunken blur. Didn't score with a pretty lady but I was too drunk to care. Luckily I made it through without any trouble (my big mouth & ruthless sense of humor used to get me into barfights). The laughter from the Airplane thing though is the most memorable part - my stomach muscles were sore the next day from a solid hour of laughing so hard I cried.

Holy fucking mother of God, Trump was calling America great back in '99 and was "looking at" running for president back then.

As I fondly recall Y2k as well and that aspect of the events, I also recall how, hours after nothing happened the NEW CONSPIRACY was that something did indeed happen but that through ALIEN interference & the tireless efforts of THOUSANDS of people around the country, old time programmers of the ORIGINAL late 1950's to 1970's programming - as a result of their efforts, Y2k was totally avoided. That new conspiracy lasted a couple of years. Anyone else remember it?
