You know what the problem with deadman switches is?

People get tired of going through the trouble to reset them if they are tech based. Also, deadman switch that is tech based has code you have to enter to rest, one that you memorize or finger swipe or something. Now if you are in jail and a big killer guy has his hands around your throat threatening to kill you if you don't give it up, what you going to do? That convicted cop wouldn't give a shit if the deadman's switch tripped and likely told pedostein that. SO he may have given it up on first "suicide" attempt.

Or he tried to rely on associates to trigger the switch in the event of his death. But do his associates really care if he dies? Why trigger it if he dies? Why not just ransom off the deadman's switch instead?

I think pedostein thought he was untouchable and got careless and one of the many people he blackmailed killed him once they were pretty certain he was that careless.

I actually agree with you, however, I can't help thinking that Epstein operated more via sets of conveyed 'instructions', rather than finding, and setting-up, targets on his own volition. That world became 'his' life job, with his the face of nothing more mysterious than that of an unassuming,yet terribly intriguing, jetsetting-playboy... to the unaware.

Do people in such a world, with such a job, really have a life of their own? By all accounts, Epstein was nothing but a procurer of special interests, someone who somehow had the ability to insure that the 'designs' of others could be met.

This includes the goings-on at 'his' ranch -which I still have serious doubts was totally financed and developed by him alone because of his interest in genetics.

IMHO, it reeks of a dark-op research scheme that had no reason to 'go public', per say... unless the real reason was an enhanced design to lure forward-looking rich and famous people into spectactularly-futuristic schemes -all in the name of science- schemes/projects/programs that would unwittingly entrap them as they, well, 'opened' themselves for research.

As intelligent as Jeffrey was said to have been, the man was largely a front, besides a laundry service for others to, er, divest while investing.

No one person has so far appeared to have been his confidant, with the exception of Ghislaine Maxwell. Her hand seems to have been in everything, despite others being around.

Unless that switch has to do with his brother, who ended up being named Epstein's executor, via a will signed unusually close to his 'hour' of death, under very strange circumstances.

Bottom line: Whoever it is who holds the assumed dead-man's switch, that bearer has proven to have not been the trusted-friend Jeffrey thought they were.

Or, as you say...he's still alive in Argentina (or Antarctica?), still contributing to the advancement of human-design science -dead or otherwise.
