Concentration, attention, thinking and all mental labor requires energy just like physical labor. A large portion of the population regardless of age are spending many hours concentrating intently on their little screens scouring the net and social media. All those hours of rapt attention are tiring them out and by the time they get to your class they are already mentally exhausted which makes it hard for them to pay attention in class without feeling tired. There isn't much you can do about it because you can't control your students in the hours they are not in your class. I would like to say that lowering the temperature is shooting you in the foot, because i know I and many others actually feel more tired when we are cold, more so then hot. |

Before you write nasty notes to me about my teaching, I will say NO.... it is not me as a teacher. I talk loud and I am very engaging instructor. I think it is something else. There minds are over-whelmed. Also kids today don't seem to have just common sense. Nursing is very technical and very step by step memorization of clinical skills. I have taught these classes for over 17 years. I am keeping the AC down lower to make them cold so they wont go to sleep. But I truly believe something is very off her with the young people. Video games more addictive than opium, and internet porn. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 31282751 Don't know why that is, but I do. Even while attending seminars where I reall want to learn something new. Maybe you can try different lighting or lamps? Teachers having to teach add or dyslexic students also have succes if they use a different color transparent sheet over the material being taught. Interesting. I have a similar problem. The lights actually make me feel tired. Not sure why. |

I had similar issues, sitting still in a classroom environment puts me to sleep even when I'm not tired even when I slept plenty the night before on a typical schedule. |

Screens disrupt sleep cycles. Established fact. When kids go to bed with their phones and wake up to check notifications, deep sleep is not established. Same goes for Netflix or some other streaming source on a tablet or TV right by the bed. I'm not paranoid...am I? |

Of course there is a huge increase in autism. The screen is their window on the world. There is no way to force an autistic person to not be autistic. Neurological shocks from toxins and vaccines are the problem. |

Most of them don't really want to be nurses at all, they want access to hard drugs, high income, are control freaks, want to snatch a Dr, and about 10% are outright Sadists looking for career opportunities. |

The main problem is the phones have them addicted to scrolling every waking moment. When I started this job it was flip phones with limited and expensive texting and kids would forget their phones all the time. Nobody has forgotten their phone in the past 4 years. I've gotten through to some students, even had one thank me repeatedly for pointing out that their difficulty learning was caused by lack of sleep. 5 hours sleep per night for 3 nights straight reduces ability to function to WORSE than legally drunk. |

It is getting harder than ever to do these things. Education costs are ridiculous |

Most classrooms and offices have them in abundance. I met a girl who could have a seizure from lighting or computer screens... I am not certain if monitors and TV's may affect people in the same way. Some people find "relief" by using blue blocking sunglasses...most newer phones have that as an option A program called "Flux" can also help moderate lighting on monitors...hope that helps. |
