Antiaircraft missiles are deadly once they lock on airliners flying around conflict/training zones. It's hard to define a safe distance , like in this incident, considering the range. For example S-400 from southern Turkey can cover part Israeli air space , or US made SM-3 has 1550 miles range; imagine one lost from White Sands NM missile range,can lock on planes all the way to Washington DC.

The plane was targeted intentionally because of who was on it. At least half a dozen were helping with the nukes. They thought the US was coming to commit mass ass-raping, got scared and tried to flee. They had Canadian citizenship making it hard to stop them from leaving, leadership felt betray/ abandoned. An accidental shoot down made sense to psycho leadership.

During the missile strikes on bases in Iraq - this can't reference the Solemeini strike, as that was days beforehand. The reference to "time" is reference to time of shoot down. The killing of Solemeini could be referred to by Iran as US adventurism which would be what caused the crisis. The Iranians are stating at "time of crisis", that is, AFTER Solemeini death.

I going with an accident, mostly because I can not prove otherwise. I still say ever who told the plane to go up during rockets being fire is an idiot or didn't care if they got shot down, or planned it themselves. It does not mean the leaders ordered it.
