He took a job that required more hours a week after our wedding. I told him I preferred he pass the job offer due to the long hours and distance. We both had good jobs and were able to spend evenings together. I just wanted balance for both of us. He took the job anyway. I supported his decision but noticed he was changing as time went on. He started drinking, gambling(spent $60,000 in one month on sctracher tickets... I have a copy of the credit card bill to prove it) and taking hydrocodines. He would not get help or quit. I tried everything for 3 years until the abuse got so bad, my daughter hid in the corner with her hands over her ears rocking herself).

STAYING IN AN ABUSIVE SITUATION, ONLY ENABLED HIM AND HE DID NOT HAVE ANY MOTIVATION TO QUIT. WHEN I FINALLY TOOK MY GIRLS AND DEVELOPED A SAFE,/HEALTHY HOME THAT OFFERED PEACE AND SANITY... HE REALIZED HE COULDN'T SEE THEM UNLESS HE WAS SOBER. HE WENT AMD GOT HELP AND STILL THANKS ME TO THIS DAY.

Early 40s here... Yes... I'm in my first relationship in awhile and while she's generally great I just wonder why I'm doing this. I have some savings, all the freedom in the world, and she (32/cute/broke) is a bit on the needy/clingy side.
