Almost easier than actual gooseberries They are an annual, which means you will need to replant each year. Gooseberries are perennial and one can seriously just take a broken branch, push it into the ground and it will root if kept moist. The alstroemeria in your picture are pretty as well, LittleMe. (though not as adorable as you) Currants are very closely related to gooseberries and will also root as easily. There are restrictions in many states on growing them (due to a disease with them and pine trees). Anonymous Coward User ID: 78462069 Australia 02/12/2020 08:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | OP nailed it. Cape Gooseberry, aka Goldenberry, are the best. If you're growing them, keep them well mulched as they have shallow roots. Shelter them from frost. Trellis them when they get bigger. Keep an eye out for 3-striped beetle and red spider mite on the leaves. Enjoy. |

User ID: 78389694 Canada 02/12/2020 08:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you have the berries, take out a bunch of seed. You don't need to buy the seed! You already bought the darn berries and they are delicious. It is a rather sprawling plant akin to it's close cousin the tomatillo. But you can easily grow it in a large (like 5gallon min) pot. Here, Zone 8B Maritime, you can get them to somewhat perennialize. Ie, leave some seeds in situ and the plant will keep coming back. If you are not busy weaving your own magick, you are trapped in anothers spell. “It’s time you realized that you have something in you more powerful and miraculous than the things that affect you and make you dance like a puppet.” – Marcus Aurelius |
