My kids love popping them out of their little "fruit wrappers" as they call them. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75151949 Very easy to grow, harvest and eat! Mine are currently 2 inches tall. I hope they cant make it until spring. You cant eat too many of these or they will give you a stomach ache. They have a tangy taste like a lemon. |

Quoting: Cannabis Kills People! Don't see you complaining about any bong adverts. I use them in salads mostly and sometimes in a meat dish or mixed veg recipe. I can see how they would make a nice alcoholic beverage or jam Another interesting one is Elderberries. Apparently elderberries are easily found in my area. I'm going to go looking for a plant soon. Does anyone here know anything about growing elderberries? |

No special treatment needed. What you do need is a proper harvesting method, and cool storage for the fresh fruit and idea about what you want to do with them. Oddly, all of the (very good really) sushi bars, serve a golden berry with their platters when they can find them. They (goldberry) would do fine in an unheated greenhouse here and produce fruit far longer. Just feather dust the lowers when they come out in winter or have mason bees in the greenhouse itself. I couldn’t believe when I found them at my local grocery store. Natives from my Amazon Rainforest call them “pushahas”. When I was little I used to be looking for them between the weeds. Yummy, they’re so good! Back a long time ago, before my city became a "sanctuary" , before the population tripled and our local culture was destroyed and replaced... We had an all American diner. Only place I've ever tasted gooseberry pie. It was delicious! Sad state of affairs hey? I haven't been 'home' since 96 because my home is a shithole. Anyhow, oh wait my last home, Vancouver is also a shithole. ANyhow...golden berries are brilliant says my sons mom who I asked what she did with them a minute or so ago. They are best dehydrated quickly then powdered and added to everything, like you would do with black pepper, except they add a unique cross-over from umami to sour. Anonymous Coward User ID: 77391584 United States 02/12/2020 11:28 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My grandma grew something like that in Wisconsin, but we had regular gooseberries growing in our back yard and park. I like regular gooseberries better, love gooseberry pie. Chinese lantern berries, I think that is what we called them. had to look it up, Physalis alkekengi They are pretty. Doubt if they grow where I live now, I tried growing gooseberries, but the ones from WI died and the catalog ones didn't grow very well. Produced small berries. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78462069 Cape Gooseberry, aka Goldenberry, are the best. If you're growing them, keep them well mulched as they have shallow roots. Shelter them from frost. Trellis them when they get bigger. Keep an eye out for 3-striped beetle and red spider mite on the leaves. Enjoy. Oh, my... I’m so obsessed with them since I was a little girl. |

You don't need to buy the seed! You already bought the darn berries and they are delicious. Quoting: Lance Roseman From BC It is a rather sprawling plant akin to it's close cousin the tomatillo. But you can easily grow it in a large (like 5gallon min) pot. Here, Zone 8B Maritime, you can get them to somewhat perennialize. Ie, leave some seeds in situ and the plant will keep coming back. I would love to have them in a greenhouse, to harvest all year. They are pricey tho, $4 for a small package. |

But we are a rarity, 8b maritime... they will also self seed in situ.
