In November, a 25-year-old Japanese citizen named Midori Nishida was checking in to a flight to Saipan, a US island in the Pacific, where she was going to visit her parents. She wasn't pregnant, and said so on a check-in questionnaire, but airline staff made her take a pregnancy test anyway before she was allowed to board.


The Wall Street Journal reports that Nishida was asked to give permission to an authorized medical provider to conduct a "fit-to-fly" assessment. The form was apparently meant for women who had a body size or shape resembling a pregnant woman.

Nishida told The Journal it was "very humiliating and frustrating" to be escorted to a public restroom where she was handed a strip to urinate on. She did not test positive and was able to board the flight.

The more difficult it is for noncitizens to get in, the better. Those not born in the US have no right to enter the US. You want to visit the US, you do what is asked.

If you're a woman, being pregnant presents an avenue for breaking our immigration laws, so you have to show that you're not intending to break the law, just like anyone else.

That’s said, even, if it was pure X-ray, a woman would likely have to be at least 4 months pregnant before being detected by non-medical staff

Whoever made the anchor baby thing law is responsible for destroying the US, period. We would be 100x better off without millions of anchors dragging down all remaining working class Americans. This was an outright replacement of the population over the past few years that they don’t try to hide anymore. Hispanics are not even a minority anymore in many places they are the majority. America became Mexico already, the government is just pretending they didn’t help make it happen. Nobody here can read!

The airline was conducting a "fit to fly" assessment. I don't agree with this conduct, but the airlines do it anyway and it has nothing at all to do with dropping an anchor baby.

It's about the airlines not wanting to deliver kids in the air or having passengers drop dead on board. It's bad for business and makes for extra work and paperwork. They might even demand a doctor's note from folks over a certain age or appearing in poor health. It's invasive and wrong, but that's yet another problem with flying, after you've cleared the pervert TSA.

Regarding birthright citizenship: The USA allows it, for now.

Japan does not, and even citizenship for Japanese nationals is not assured.

Nobody here can read!

The airline was conducting a "fit to fly" assessment. I don't agree with this conduct, but the airlines do it anyway and it has nothing at all to do with dropping an anchor baby.

It's about the airlines not wanting to deliver kids in the air or having passengers drop dead on board. It's bad for business and makes for extra work and paperwork. They might even demand a doctor's note from folks over a certain age or appearing in poor health. It's invasive and wrong, but that's yet another problem with flying, after you've cleared the pervert TSA.

Regarding birthright citizenship: The USA allows it, for now.

Japan does not, and even citizenship for Japanese nationals is not assured.

In November, a 25-year-old Japanese citizen named Midori Nishida was checking in to a flight to Saipan, a US island in the Pacific, where she was going to visit her parents. She wasn't pregnant, and said so on a check-in questionnaire, but airline staff made her take a pregnancy test anyway before she was allowed to board.


The Wall Street Journal reports that Nishida was asked to give permission to an authorized medical provider to conduct a "fit-to-fly" assessment. The form was apparently meant for women who had a body size or shape resembling a pregnant woman.

Nishida told The Journal it was "very humiliating and frustrating" to be escorted to a public restroom where she was handed a strip to urinate on. She did not test positive and was able to board the flight.

The more difficult it is for noncitizens to get in, the better. Those not born in the US have no right to enter the US. You want to visit the US, you do what is asked.

If you're a woman, being pregnant presents an avenue for breaking our immigration laws, so you have to show that you're not intending to break the law, just like anyone else.

But in the 1898 Wong Kim Ark ruling- the only Supreme Court ruling on birthright citizenship- it states:

"a child born in the United States, of parents of Chinese descent, who, at the time of his birth, are subjects of the Emperor of China, but have a permanent domicile and residence in the United States...."

So, a permanent domicile would entail legal permission to be here and long term plans to be here by permission of our laws- not just people "passing through" or here with illegal status.

Domicile definition: 1 : a dwelling place : place of residence : home 2 a : a person's fixed, permanent, and principal home for legal purposes
