Nishida told The Journal it was "very humiliating and frustrating" to be escorted to a public restroom where she was handed a strip to urinate on. But in the 1898 Wong Kim Ark ruling- the only Supreme Court ruling on birthright citizenship- it states: "a child born in the United States, of parents of Chinese descent, who, at the time of his birth, are subjects of the Emperor of China, but have a permanent domicile and residence in the United States...." So, a permanent domicile would entail legal permission to be here and long term plans to be here by permission of our laws- not just people "passing through" or here with illegal status.
