I believe there have been gurus, rishis, & faquiers who've been able to manifest seemingly supernatural powers (levitation, creation of items out of thin air, etc), but a true Vedic Yogi (Hindu holyman) would never resort to these sorts of public displays. Even if they did, I can't imagine them summoning gold trinkets out of the aether. A butterfly or a flower, yes. But gold necklaces? Just not buying it.

True yogis and spiritual people know very well that siddhis are spiritual traps.
They are materialistic desires that everyone has at some point: "I want to have super powers. I want to be able to levitate. I want to be able to influence people. I want to be able to summon gold".
These powers are basic, almost animalistic. If you spend your life trying to achieve them then you are NOT on the spiritual path, but on the materialistic one.
Same reason so many gurus and cult leader become selfish, evil, crazy. Starting to manipulate their followers into giving them money, having sex with them. Pretending to be god.
There is nothing spiritual in that. It's the most common trap that all spiritual people are aware of.
Sathya Sai Baba is just one of many who fell for this, like Rael, like Sun Myung Moon, and more recently like Donald Trump, who will be pandering to evangelicals despite being the least religious and spiritual president ever.
