The article says it was advertised as "residential." He bought it as such. The municipal government is just trying to fleece the guy. this is that Marxist shithole Seattle - Communists gonna do what Communists gonna do. You make it, they take it.

There was a third party involved, a real estate agent perhaps, who I assume was the party that advertised the property as unique residential. That real estate agent should have errors and omissions insurance and should be the party that was sued, not the city if my assumptions are correct.

The city sold the property as a residence.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78338066

The property should have been re-zoned to residential before selling it to this guy.

There were complaints, he must have a lot of traffic and cars coming and going to this place. He probably AirBNB's it to people for a big monthly haul. Or worse, has big parties there with cars parking all over the neighborhood, annoying all neighbors.

The real problem is he is using a residential place as a commercial place, and the neighbors are complaining. The property could be re-zoned to residential by the city, so why won't the city do that? And then they would limit his commercial activity in his residence, because it's affecting his neighborhood.

Literally half of what you said is counter to the interview and the article. And the other half you just made up.

Nice work.

blinkerrose Reading between the lines I think he was running the place as a venue. As a neighbour I don't go looking for things to be offended about. but it's obvious from what he admitted that he's causing problems and they seem to be justified about complaining.. I'd say quiet family residence or else...

Mexican homes are built so well they don't need air conditioning. American homes are such crap that even with R-280 insulation they get hot as hell without AC, FOR WHAT? Build the house right and it won't be a sweat box.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77568487

Mexican homes are built of poured concrete due to a lack of wood resources. Mexicans don't install AC because they can't afford it, not because they don't want it.

Most of Mexico is seismically active and concrete homes do not fare well in an earthquake.

In most of the houses the electrical is a total accident waiting to happen - basically no electric code.

Sewer lines are substandard and cannot handle toilet paper, which must be tossed in a separe trash can next to the toilet.

In many areas, water supplies are only on for part of the day, so houses must fill a cistern to supply water for the whole day.

Most houses have no hot water. For hot showers, a suicide shower may be used.

SEATTLE — Kroon purchased the property from the City of Seattle in a 2012 auction.

Kroon told KIRO 7 he “thought we had essentially bought a residential property” for $712,000.

The Seattle man then spent thousands of dollars on interior remodeling, and for more than three years, his extended family and friends used the firehouse for holidays, celebrations, charity fundraisers, graduation parties and as an office until a Land Use Notice of Violation arrived in July of 2016.

According to the City of Seattle's violation letter, a "complaint about this property" had been received. A Housing and Zoning Inspector "investigated" and found "violations of the Seattle Land Use Code."

I would be willing to bet that an occasional party would be much batter than a 24/7 functioning fire house, as far as noise is concerned.
Those trucks are not quiet when they leave in a hurry.

Neighbors nay also be wanting the firehouse back because their insurance rates would be raised when the fire house stopped being a fire house

How, exactly, is it hurting anyone when he uses it as a residential property? Why do they even care?

Fuck laws against victimless crimes. The only true laws are from GOD. Humans don’t have the right to tell humans what they can and can’t do!

The only reason why they get away with ridiculous laws like this, or criminalization of marijuana, is because the sheep mindlessly accept every law as just.
