For example, one USAF study found that a 36-degree Fahrenheit (20-degree Celsius) reduction in temperature can change the amount of liquid fuel reaching the ground by as much as a factor of 10. Other factors such as fuel jettison nozzle dispersion characteristics, airplane wake, and other atmospheric conditions can affect the amount of fuel that reaches the ground." from [link to www.boeing.com (secure)] Right .. never heard of dumping fuel that low... must have been an emergency ... but details are scarce at this point. good thing they kids were not smoking in the schoolyard !! jet fuel is a lower grade fuel than diesel. Neither is flamable by something like a cigarette. You can spill diesel on your driveway, throw a match on it, and nothing will happen. I'm sure there must be fumes that could ignite from the nozzle release? |

I used to put cigarettes out in a parts washer full of diesel at work. Diesel requires a direct flame for a significant period of time to ignite. However, planes run on Kerosene. Jet Fuel is an octane boosted kerosene. |

I’m guessing you didn’t watch my video considering you posted one showing the same effect. Kerosene, diesel, jet fuel, doesn’t ignite readily. Your video showed that as well until he pulled out the propane torch which burns hotter than the bic and flint. “When you’re dead you’re dead, but you’re not quite so dead if you contribute something” -John Dunsworth |
