Why where there maternity wards at the Auschwitz "extermination camp", and how come Ann Frank, when she was at this "extermination camp", she refused to work so was sent to a normal internment camp?

Granted, due to allied bombing, any labor camp would automatically become an extermination camp, as allied bombs exterminated everyone, German and Jewish alike.
