User ID: 77847059 Philippines 01/15/2020 10:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This was discussed at last night's briefing. As many are away, most buildings (squalor areas especially) are extremely sub standard. A few months ago, there was a major earthquake in the nearby province of Pampanga (Angeles/Clark) North of Metro Manila. Here is a story on the damage a 6.1 earthquake caused in region. Thread: Worlds largest super volcano discovered in Philippines - Nearly 3x the size of Yellowstone caldera! Then in December Super Typhoon Tisoy was tracking towards Metro Manila during the SEA games. Thankfully it tracked further South and avoided the most densely populated area of the Philippines. The following week, Typhoon Usurla took almost the same exact path of Typhoon Tisoy. It resulted in more deaths and damages than did the stronger Typhoon Tisoy. Here is video of Super Typhoon Tisoy (CAT 4/5) making landfall in Northern Samar. Imagine that occurring in Metro Manila. Most small homes and buildings would likely collapse from the weight of heavy ash fall if winds carry it North. That could result in thousands of lives and catastrophic damages. Still only a fraction of the damage done by Mt. Pinatubo's VEI-6 eruption in 1991. Finally, this is the real danger. The "Valley Fault" runs underneath Metro Manila and is capable of producing a 7+ mag earthquake. That would be a "Wrath of God" level event when (not if) it occurs. Please understand, we have enough Pinoys spreading false rumors on social media. That is why I'm so adamant about fear based (not fact based) threads started by the OP. As others pointed out the link isn't from a reputable source (click bait). Rumors and fake news results in unnecessary panic and causes more problems than the real thing when it occurs. OP is like many yelling "Wolf! Wolf!". So when the real thing occurs people will be confused. That is what the Philippine government disaster agencies learned from Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013. Rumors and miscommunication resulted in thousands of lives lost. I do agree with what a Navajo elder told me about 25 yrs ago. If humans don't change their ways, the Earth will undergo a great cleansing. Pray for the people of the Philippines and around the world who need divine intervention. You are born with the truth, then taught a lie. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78347836 Didn't a different set of scientists announce that the Earth's rotation had slowed and it would cause an uptick in earthquakes and eruptions? Sometime within the last year? These scientists need to read GLP. Yes, they were saying that back in 2017. Interesting. |

It's still a theory and not a confirmed fact. It could also be an impact crater. So far geologists haven't found any physical evidence it has ever erupted. I have extended family in the Philippines and they have arrived to the US....do you have a place to evacuate too? How'd you manage getting them here? From my understanding it's very difficult to get visas from the Phillipines unless there's a marriage. Just got back home from the 11 AM PDRRMO/NDRRMC meeting at our local command center. Thanks for your kind response. You know how Filipinos and their tsimis (gossip). That's why I'm so passionate about the misleading/fake news about the current situation here. I live "out in the province", near Cabanatuan. It's about 100 mi (160 km) North of Tagaytay (Lake/Mt Taal), well out of the danger zone. However, there was a 7+ eq back in 1990 here and hundreds lost their lives because the disaster response teams lacked proper equipment to free people buried underneath collapsed rubble. Today they have the equipment, resources and experienced SAR teams to help save many lives. Even during the Mt. Pinatubo eruption in 1991, this area was not effected due to the Amihan season (Northeast monsoon winds). It would be a different story if it were the Habagat season (Southwest monsoon winds) between May-November. My lolo/lolas tell me stories from the WW2 Japanese occupation (near Cabanatuan POW camp) where survivors of the Bataan Death March were held. They were liberated by US Army Rangers and Filipino resistance fighters in January 1945. Watch the movie, "The Great Raid", it is historically accurate. One of my many hobbies is WW2 Pacific War history. Hearing 1st hand accounts by locals gives one a different perspective than what one reads in books. Since I live on a pension, I'm also limited on funds. Instead, I volunteer with the local provincial and national government's (PDRRMO/NDRRMC) disaster teams with technical support with their mobile command centers. The provincial governor asked how much I charge for my services. I replied nothing except just food, travel and lodging expenses if needed I have over 25 yrs experience in US private and government sectors. That includes volunteering with the Civil Air Patrol, El Dorado County SAR (EDSAR), Folsom PD, CalOES, and FEMA. They were glad I assisted them resolve many of their issues. They previously paid for an IBM consultant to setup their inter-agency communications and command centers and it was a cluster fuck. As far as evacuation, both myself and my 3 yo son are US citizens. My Filipina wife (asawa ko) and step-daughter (bata babae) are Filipino citizens. I know both PNA (Philippine Army) and 82nd/SOCOM advisers stationed at Ft. Magsaysay a few miles from our home. In worst case scenario our plan is to travel to Ft. Magsaysay and get evacuated (Space A) on a C-130 transport or similar transport. While my Filipina wife and step-daughter don't have US visas, I can declare them as under refugee status. For the haters out there calling out the doom, just remember today could be your last day on Earth. So doom depends on one's perspective. Personal, regional or global, it doesn't matter. We all live on the same planet and the following quote from JRR Tolkien's LOTR applies to many situations where people face danger. “I wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo. “So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” Quoting: JRR TolkienLast Edited by Agent MIB on 01/16/2020 02:42 AM You are born with the truth, then taught a lie. |
