You're probably right, Dutchy.

*edit to add

You have a good point, sos. Who knows what they've brought in and from where or how it was handled.

More on waste water..

Covid-19 in wastewater could be infectious

...Wastewater treatment plants need to upgrade their treatment protocols and in the near future also advance toward tertiary treatment through micro- and ultra-filtration membranes, which successfully remove viruses,”

International study led by Israeli researchers indicates sewage containing SARS-CoV-2 particles may pose a serious public-health threat.
 Quoting: Guythu

Lots of "if" and "might" and "could" and "may" and "we don't know yet" in that article.

Someone is looking for grant money.

The crux of their argument is "If all the tried and true methods that have been in place for 70 years keeping the 6,000 other deadly pathogens in sewage out of drinking and irrigation water, then MAYBE there's a chance that COVID could make it out somewhere and MAYBE infect someone... but we just don't know yet. Better give us money RIGHT NOW so we can find out!!!

7 months into this now, still not a single infection at any of my sewage plants... 200 some odd employees between them.

Needed to get some groceries in the night as I got the munchies. While waiting for the bus was approaching by a drunk old guy who wasn't all there. Rather crazy, very touchy, coughy and spitty. Did my best to keep a distance, but a very unpleasant experience overall. Bleh.

I agree with you in principle RW, that said however 1 out of 400 isn't a problem. If it means you go from 0 to 1 it becomes a problem. We need a higher degree of certainty with transmission on either side of the intestinal system. We need less "shitty" research with speculative conclusions for both the entry and the exit regarding this topic.

Well, wow..... you quoted one out of thousands. You would be a great reporter for the Washington Post.

And as a society, we are fucked. You don’t have to like it, but you should consider adding some critical thinking education to your day.

Besides AIDS (which ain’t as contagious), when was the last time a new virus caused a major need for after infection care, in such large numbers?

One out of thousands. Yes. You DO say the same thing over and over and over.
And you just repeated it yet again.
I believe that everyone knows you think it's the end of the world by now.
Very helpful!

A) A mutation does not occur simultaneously everywhere. My prior frustration is that I cannot track the mutation and look at the data to see anomalous anomalies.
B) We have medical protocols now. I hope you'll trust me but if not I hope TH will back this up, but a lot less patients die if you don't have to reinvent the wheel but can look at a signal and respond in a preconceived appropriate way. Even though these protocols may have been around for a bit now, they don't really get implemented well until you've gone through a few patients. And we'll forego the exceptions for now.

And I knew I had seen it previously.

Discovery and Genomic Characterization of a 382-Nucleotide Deletion in ORF7b and ORF8 during the Early Evolution of SARS-CoV-2

...the SARS-CoV-2 382-nt deletion viruses showed significantly higher replicative fitness in vitro than the wild type, while no difference was observed in patient viral load, indicating that the deletion variant viruses retained their replicative fitness

Meh. Article was "Received June 16, 2020"

"The earliest 382-nt deletion variant was detected in Singapore on 29 January 2020, with the deletion viruses circulating in the country and accounting for 23.6% (45/191) of SARS-CoV-2 samples screened in this study."

"In addition to Δ382 viruses, other ORF7b and/or ORF8 deletions, from 62 nt to 345 nt, have been observed in Australia (n = 2), Bangladesh (n = 2), and Spain (n = 2)"

Here’s the Lancet (more recent)

Development of hypoxia requiring supplemental oxygen was less frequent in the DELTA 382 variant group (0 [0%] of 29 patients) than in the wild-type only group (26 [28%] of 92; absolute difference 28% [95% CI 14–28]).

Interesting. Dated Aug 18, focus on Singapore. Combined this may be a good thing but i'll be boring and say we need more data. The lancet study is the kind of data we want to see but the data for the D382 (It's D382 now, I'm not playing the Delta game) is skewed to lower ages and the N is very small.

What we would want to see is data for the prevalence of D382 and/or mutations in Orf7b and Orf8 and compare it to the rate of hospitalizations vs. ICU admissions. From the data that I have seen thus far the deletion would appear to be less likely to create the immune dis-regulation that has tended to cause the quick and severe symptoms, that would at least be my working hypothesis going by this all.

Then maybe at some point I'll try to learn microbiologists naming scheme's. It tends to read like my naming conventions for variables when I was 12 and started programming.

Maybe an air fryer?

Not the same as pan fried. But..it’s something.

Outside in good weather with a fan blowing over the pan? I get confused at people calling america the land of deep frying things when it's actually normal for most dutch people to keep a deep fryer in the shed.

Air fryer is just a smaller convection oven with moving bits. Just put it in the oven with a bit of oil dribbled over and stir it around more.
