My mom now prefer Hellman's. I'm trying to figure out if I can rescind her dutch nationality. And no dutch cheese for you, If you lived in NY perhaps, I got a brother there. But American cheese first! =P
 Quoting: Dutchy20

Nooooo. Hellman’s is decent. I actually bought a case of individual ones, but their expiration is in 30 days, so sending them to the food pantry.

What sweet Dutch foods do we need? Or a good cookie recipe :)
 Quoting: CleverCreator

Dutch recipe? Boil to death mash into mash with potatoes and add meat.

Dutch cookies, like a stroopwaffle. Plain cookie dough with no sugar added, but syrop in between.

Dutch quisine is not a thing.
 Quoting: Dutchy20

Wait.... Britain has more “cuisine “ than Dutch? Oh noooooooo.

Yah.....on got a box of stroopwaffles. Saving for dark winter.

Oooh. Speaking of baking.... Nef..... hope all is well over there.
 Quoting: CleverCreator

We ain't lacking in nothing. Everything comes through here and always has for aslong as we can remember. So that will change.

And agreed, Nef be missed, He and riff and you, along with guythu etc are the only one's that are willing to accept inconvenient truths.

I will say that Havarti cheese is one of my greatest discoveries. It melts into a buttery cheese goodness that no other cheese can do.

I like that too, but seriously, Dutch cheese is heaven on earth! If you find a family type dairy that makes cheese here, make friends with them so they'll sell you some of their cheese. I'm serious, it will be SO good. Way better than ANY store cheese.
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

If Dutch cheese is heaven on earth, I think you've never tried Italia or French cheese

As fine dining, Dutch food is a couple of steps above British food. The thing is they have some of the most wonderful singles on earth. Kibbling, panakoeken, (that's not spelled right ) ollie bollen, straight up, fresh right out of the oven bread....of ALL kinds! The deserts at the bakery or the coffee shop (not THAT kind)OMG!!! I have to stop, my glucose is rising as we speak! LOL I need a trip!

Pannekoeken. (Pan)(Pan)(ne)(Integrative)(koek)(cookie)(en)(Multiplier). And out bread will never to the french, but we don't aspire to it. You get fresh bread baked in your supermarket daily here, not excellent but good enough. But you are hardpressed to find a shop that does not have a qualified bakery or butcher attached or integrated into it.

Well, it was a long time ago, but we DID have a bakery across from C-1000. They baked bread twice a day! Once the whole family at half a loaf just walking back home.

I'm not sure but I think C-1000 became Vomar, so they are no longer around. Haven't seen one in ages. But there really is not difference. I just go the AH because it's at the end of the street at walking distance. I'm in and out in under a minute.

Our C-1000 wasn't very big, but it was good for all of our area. Our AH was at the mall at City Plaza.

Comparing it internationally, I am always surprised how little choice there is between stores internationally. I live in a town of 40k and there are about 20 supermarkets to choice from. Polish supermarkets compete on products available, the dutch one's compete on selection and price, the German price fighters compete on price. None of them operate at a loss as far as I know.

Well, when you (the population) shop daily or every other day, there's a bigger chance of impulse buying. So I guess it makes sense. We have an ALDI's here. They dropped grocery prices everywhere for quite awhile. I go there when I get Nederland's (home) sick. World Market here also has quite a few Dutch foods. Even that salty licorice that the rest of my family loves! Too bad we don't have one close to us here.

Not great news for me today. Colleague, his wife and 2 children all infected with covid19. I have no risk because I bugged out of the office on Jan. 17th. I hope they recover quickly with no long term consequences. Lovely family.

I had suspicions they were ill back in March but when tested were negative.....hmmmm.

I was the first one to leave the office, I took a good share of ridicule and a lot of eyenrolling. My statement to everyone was you don't want to get this virus and even if you don't, you also do not want to be caught up in its consequences.

I have refused in-person social and work engagements for months and will continue to do so despite very little infection where I am. I simply do not trust the situation. I deal in probability and right now the probability of myself or Mr. Sail getting infected needs to stay as close to zero as possible.

My heart is heavy for those I know now who are ill.

The worst part remains not being able to see and hug the grandchildren just as Darth said earlier.

It is a terrible price to pay.

I am grateful for those here on this thread. It keeps me going.

Just send the cheese and mayo, then. I can fake the rest! LOL

*send some vla with it and I won't bug you anymore!

I will say that Havarti cheese is one of my greatest discoveries. It melts into a buttery cheese goodness that no other cheese can do.
 Quoting: Serenity Now

I like that too, but seriously, Dutch cheese is heaven on earth! If you find a family type dairy that makes cheese here, make friends with them so they'll sell you some of their cheese. I'm serious, it will be SO good. Way better than ANY store cheese.
 Quoting: Texan Buckeye

If Dutch cheese is heaven on earth, I think you've never tried Italia or French cheese

Piedmont Box Wine, is that you? If not, disregard the inside joke and tell us your favorite cheese. :)
