OK, I don't share this much, but my wife, The Queen, was kidnapped off a bus in El Salvador by communist rebels when she was 13.

They used the kids to make explosives and IEDs because they lost too many soldiers doing that.

The only thing that saved her was her Christian faith. The rebel commander said he would kill any man that touched her. In truth, they saw she was bright and resourceful so they hoped to recruit her.

She said she got so hungry that she ate dirt. Their primary diet was moldy bread and water. She made tortillas out of green plantain bananas. She has eaten every creature that runs, swims, flys, or slithers.

I will not tell the tale of how she escaped, but she joined the Air Force in her country at age 15 to clear her name. They thought she was a communist...possibly.

So, my wife has far more survival experience and combat experience than I do.

The Almighty worked miracles in her life.

So you can see why she is a prepper?

Now she is MY miracle.

Where ever the disputed-origin saying originated, it's a good one, and I am going to adopt it as a prepping mantra, too. I think my roommates and my neighbors think I'm nuts -- I've stockpiled a hell of a lot of stuff over the last few months (my neighbors probably just think I'm a binge shopper, who gets a lot of deliveries.) My roommates probably think I'm a bit paranoid, but that's ok by me. They go grocery shopping ... I don't leave the house unless I have no choice. At least they're careful and responsible about it when they do go out.

I got more sprouting supplies delivered today... I should have a nice supply of greens all fall and winter. I'll probably have to resort to the local produce market for a few things (things that are too big to grow indoors) or ask my roommates to grab them when they go shopping, but I'm pretty excited to have my own greenery to rely on. I also have lots of happy little salad greens poking up out of my hydroponic gardens. There will be tomatoes and herbs, too, but that will take a while. Having never gardened before, this whole process really amazes me. I have done lots of work with animals (years of avian rehab work) -- but plants are new to me.

I guess the countdown is on, whether the inflection point is this month or next. With the uptick in cases from school reopenings, I'm guessing it'll be a gradual building up until nobody can deny that we've hit a disaster threshold.

I gotta hand it to my students this semester --- they're really bringing a lot of life to the Zoom classes, and they're genuinely really appreciative of the time and energy I'm putting in to making it a good experience. I gather I'm a lot more ahead of the curve than many, and that my classes are going pretty smoothly, all things considered. That's a nice feeling, being as tech-illiterate as I typically am. As bleak as things are all around, I do feel very blessed in a lot of ways.

I know with 100% certainty the major universities in MS are doing echocardiograms and stress tests on ANY college athlete that tests positive for Covid. They already do routine EKG's, along with blood tests and nasal covid swabs, when they arrive to school to get their physicals. These kids have better medical care than you and I do while they are in school. Trust me, the school doesn't want the reputation of harming athletes on their hands.

Pretty sure it is technically appropriate to replace athlete with investment at any point in your prior statement.

It's becoming pretty clear that the strategy is to manage the spread instead of eliminating it. The 5 day window as described only really makes sense if measured from symptom onset. People are, based on current studies, infectious up to 3 days prior to symptom onset. Combine this with the current assumption that as much as 50% of infections are cause by asymptomatic and/or presymptomatic transmission and this measure seems to assume that cases will either not be found before that time or that the 50% reduction is a significant gain.

If we assume a Rt of 1.2, cutting transmission by 50% would get it down to .6 but that is foregoing any possible superspreaders. So the measure only makes sense if you have data to suggest that the quarantine time of 14-days is thusly offsetting that it limits adherence to a very significant degree. 14 days is on the safe side, it assumes the longer range of incubation after exposure and infectiousness after being infected, but 5 days is pushing it right into the other threshold.

I feel we will soon follow as what happens there happens here etc plus open borders that despite being closed are just open fields outside the check points and so people coming n going all the time....

Today 1359 new cases and 481 in Kathmandu.... full lock down in place and curfew for 18hrs a day by military in our area due to riots yesterday.

India is in the shit a bit, i feel the cases are around the same everyday due to test limits and deaths are prob higher as people cannot get to hospitals and then cannot get treated as various issues inc caste ones means they get turned away... some people are dying in the streets and car parks and left by relatives and found half eaten by street dogs .... very sad situation there

Nope wouldn't argue with you on that one my wee man is exactly the same always has a temp/cough to go along with cutting teeth, runny nose he would really only get with a cold up to now.

It is our first little one and his health hasn't been good since he was born and haven't really got to the bottom of this yet so already had daily worrys before all this came along and just made them feel 200 times worse

Just back from testing that was brutal and here they now throw a test into the car and we all had to do our own tests so god knows if they were even done right how they expect you to get a swab around an 18 months tonsils and up thier nose without touching tongue, cheek etc. I don't know lol

So long story short... antibody tests likely don't work for people who had mild or asymptomatic cases.

An antibody study in Bergamo if I remember correctly showed like 50% of people had been exposed.

Mild and asymptomatic cases outnumber severe by a factor of 3 or 4 to one... does that mean almost everybody in Bergamo was exposed?

I do think that makes sense. My theory all along as to why the first waves were so deadly is because the outbreaks were in reality 10 times larger than what the world worldometers numbers would suggest.

That would require 1,800 deaths per day every day of the week between now and 1/1/21.

Even during the initial outbreak we were only at those levels for about 3-4 weeks.

New England has made it 3 months now without a second wave, the south will at least do close to the same... without those states theres no friggin way the deaths get that high.

Look at Spain, they're having a huge second wave and there's almost no deaths.

Two more people from work sent home to self isolate NHS Track and trace..
Supervisor told one lad to just get on with his job, then suddenly changing his mind and sent him and his car share friend home..

I haven't been posting much been dealing with personal health issues and stressing. Did a psa test a two weeks ago and the levels were high at a 7 normal is below 4 with free psa at 9.7% they like the free psa to be above 20%. With free levels below 10% it put me in about a 56% chance of prostate cancer. They did a biopsy last Monday and just got off the phone with the Doc. I'm clean and clear no cancer!!
So I'm now happy and am able to be my normal cynical self again.
I think I'll go pick some plums today and make some jelly for the apocalypse. Life is good!!
