Damn it!!!

My watermelon needs another month! I am going to have to build a greenhouse. The changes are too much. And now when planning the greenhouse....I have to build in hexagons due to wind.

Change sucks.

TB..... I kind of like Iowa just because if Yellowstone just burps.... the odds are that the yuck either goes above or below us. The jet stream is rarely directly above us. But during winter, it can suck.

Thanks. I am starting my sketches. That would be awesome.

This is a good idea for northern states. Especially if citrus stops flowing.

Is it time to rethink the strategy?

Spain breaks single-day record for highest infections

Spain’s Health Ministry confirmed 10,476 new coronavirus infections on Friday -- the highest single-day jump since the pandemic began.

‘Carnage’ in a lab dish shows how the coronavirus may damage the heart

Maybe we should think of Covid-19 as a heart disease.

When SARS-CoV-2 virus was added to human heart cells grown in lab dishes, the long muscle fibers that keep hearts beating were diced into short bits, alarming scientists at the San Francisco-based Gladstone Institutes

Be glad you live in the digital age! Just teasing....a little!

Back in the dinosaur age, before vcr's. I really wanted to watch a show called V. It was about lizard aliens that infiltrated and took over earth. At the time, it was very cool. It came on too early! My kids were sunrise, sundown babies. I did get to watch some of it, but had to wait for reruns and the dvd's to watch the rest!

US:
410,451COVID-19 deaths
based on Current projection scenario by January 1, 2021

[link to covid19.healthdata.org (secure)]
 Quoting: Guythu

That would require 1,800 deaths per day every day of the week between now and 1/1/21.

Even during the initial outbreak we were only at those levels for about 3-4 weeks.

New England has made it 3 months now without a second wave, the south will at least do close to the same... without those states theres no friggin way the deaths get that high.

Look at Spain, they're having a huge second wave and there's almost no deaths.
 Quoting: R. Wordsworth

We were going into spring in March. Now we head into winter. Projected data is entirely possible.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 15156371

Half the country never gets as cold at any point in the winter as does New England in March, average temp was 33 degrees where I'm at with several stretches in the low teens.

And in March nobody was wearing masks, nobody was social distancing, bars were still open... and the virus was rampant everywhere. We just didn't know it because of lack of testing.

We already know what an outbreak looks like during the winter. To hit 400k deaths by January we would have to have a WORSE outbreak than the New England one, nationwide.

It's just not gonna happen with how many people have already been exposed and will have immunity for at least the next couple of months.

This whole emotional attachment to a way of life is just going to be why the virus keeps getting an edge over humanity....

Since they have done the right thing and wait that was UoI but I think ISU did too (tooooo many schools to keep tack of).... now ISU are now warning of the financial fallout. Well, duh.

But here is an idea.... how about everyone acknowledges that sports need to be placed on permanent hiatus until this clusterfuck+ is over.

I haven't been posting much been dealing with personal health issues and stressing. Did a psa test a two weeks ago and the levels were high at a 7 normal is below 4 with free psa at 9.7% they like the free psa to be above 20%. With free levels below 10% it put me in about a 56% chance of prostate cancer. They did a biopsy last Monday and just got off the phone with the Doc. I'm clean and clear no cancer!!
So I'm now happy and am able to be my normal cynical self again.
I think I'll go pick some plums today and make some jelly for the apocalypse. Life is good!!

Went to get an oil change today. Dealership is northbound from me on I75. Michigan's numbers are going to skyrocket in a couple weeks. I couldn't believe traffic - everyone seems to be heading up north. Labor day is always a big traffic weekend but wow. I never remember it being that busy at 11am. Usually around 2-3pm it starts getting hairy.

Everywhere I passed was packed out. Great Lakes Crossing Mall, Sams club, Costco, Meijer, Walmart.....everyone getting ready for the BBQs I guess. I doubt they are prepping for what is coming.

Also, lots of state troopers pulling people over. I saw 10 people pulled over and then several other cars just sitting and waiting to get someone the hour I was on the road. Craziness.

Amazon picked up the slack by deploying their own fleet. Not sure how long that will work too.

Thanks, Pres. My son and his family still live out on the South Plains. They are close enough to the NM line. I've been keeping track of the numbers out there in the small towns. It's out there in some big enough for population size numbers. They never had a really big spike and it's stayed fairly level. Lubbock on the other hand.....they don't take it very seriously from what I can gather, either.

 Quoting: R. Wordsworth

You seem to forget that there were full lockdowns in place then.

Today, we are being fed that all is doing well but keep wearing a mask. The push is to reopen and live with the virus.

Your bipolar view of the virus is nauseating. Your view almost echoes the very people who have gambled on people lives from the get go of this pandemic.

Have you no conscience?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78576165

That's crappy of you.

If you haven't noticed, at this juncture, there's no choice BUT to figure out how to live with this. We could have beaten it, but the powers that shouldn't be gave conflicting and confusing information and decided to go for profit over people and made this pathogen political.

No vaxx will work. A lockdown won't even work now because it's pervasive.

We can hide forever or learn what works to mitigate it and try to be careful.
 Quoting: Fluffy Pancakes

So you agree with me that the death toll would be higher in the future due to the dangerous push to reopen and live with the virus.

Wordsworth has a habit of making things light though forecasts are grim. Yes we should reopen WHEN it's safe.

Nobody said we shouldn't but the push is politically driven and have no bearing to how many lives are lost.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78576165

My position is that we should act responsibly and take care to avoid exposure and increase our immune system's ability to function VERY well.

I think they have jacked up everything about this pathogen and are continuing to do so. I think opening schools is flatly insane and that parents should network with their friends and create "pods" as they say if they absolutely cannot homeschool themselves. Many people can't due to work/debt/bills etc.

So yes, I agree that we shouldn't be so open that all sense falls out.

But I disagree with CC on several things in this. Probably the largest disagreeance is on HCQ and zinc. But I appreciate her viewpoint as well. And some of her imgur links are absolutely hilarious!

I don't see it as being an ELE, but it's completely destroyed our "normalcy" and there is no returning to that. The economy and supply chain damage is done, and the effects of that will begin to multiply out of control.

I think we should be open, but careful. I think people should go outside and to beaches, but stay away from others outside of their group. I don't think we need to wear masks outside if we keep some distance from those out of normal everyday contact -family, roomates, etc.

And I don't think having giant indoor venues is intelligent at all. We need the actual truth. And it is increasingly difficult to find.

My biggest concern is that with all the hoopla and mis-dis information and the propaganda that "there is no pathogen and masks actually HURT you" is going to get us wiped out in late fall and winter due to less natural vitamin D and more intermingling indoors.

I'm not calling any dates on when it will become untenable. But I do think this winter is going to be a disaster. Mostly because I think the majority of people think there is no pathogen and have been massaged into fearing logical action to mitigate spread of ALL pathogens.

If there is a more deadly pathogen in the offing...I am concerned it will be absolutely devastating.

My opinions are based on research and I apply a requirement. I check funding sources and want 2 studies with the same information from disparate sources that do not have a financial dog in the game.
Things are bad enough, there is no need to make anything up. ~Fluffy

That’s a good RW question.....how well can solar work through dreary winter days..... in Iowa we get a decent amount of sun, but when the dreary does come.... it can be over 7 days, at times ..... it is why we use wind power so much out here.

I wonder if we could do a small system of both?

Solar panel output can drop by as much as 75% at the lowest point of the winter, depending on your lattitude.

How long can batteries hold a charge? How big a bank to get through winter? Grow lights, water pump, fans....think greenhouse.

:)

Appreciate you.

You can always hook up a stationary bike to an alternator and charge the batteries that way.

I had a Rick and Marty dream about towns taking shifts.

:)

It is on my mind.

Craziness.

I hope they're gone by next week. We have to drive up to the doc's at Southgate. 2 hour one way. Thanks Tricare. This is what y'all have to look forward to.

I am sorry about tricare. .... if you retired to Arizona ;) there were more providers.

The desert thing is a bit concerning.....knowing what we know.... I would rather have access to water and death by New Madrid versus dehydration.

Just found out stepson's mom tested positive for COVID 19. They live in rural East Texas. So this thing is moving rapidly out of the cities and into rural areas. Be careful out there, folks.

Prayers for the family.

The population out near NM is tiny. I hope it doesn't get out of hand. I have family in San Angelo. They had a spike about a month ago, but it has calmed down. Not eager for the labor day spike.

Me too, I am taking another camping trip a week from today. Another new moon and the sun has been acting up to I am hoping it continues for northern lights as I will be on the shore of Superior. I'm gonna need to bring winter gear I think for the temps at night!!

I am hoping its less busy but in all actuality, its going to be riskier than my last trip just due to everyone that is going up this weekend. Spreading it out in the rural areas like what is happening in TX it appears. As long as I take all my supplies I should only need to stop for gas. And I have plenty of supplies thanks to prepping.

I was going to maybe rent a cabin with wifi after camping so I could just stay up there and work for the rest of the week but nope. I'd rather stay outside in my own space so got a tethering plan for my cell phone and hope to find a site with service somewhere.

I just feel like I should stay up north for a bit longer than the 5 days I originally had planned. Mid Sept feels very doomy...isn't there an asteroid supposed to pass close by? Oh and not to mention all the earthquake activity. Maybe its good to get out of the city/suburbs for a second, lol. I know UD mentioned Sept 15/18 or something I read yesterday

hiding

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Do something that brings you joy and doesn't contribute to spreading the virus

FP,

I very much respect your viewpoints :) and thanks for logically disagreeing.

While I do think these treatments can offer some relief.....I ain’t dropping my bone. That intuition is how I am alive today.

To all the trolls.... no, I don’t want cee. But there are already enough issues that life won’t be “normal” any time in the next decade.
