P13315 Just found out stepson's mom tested positive for COVID 19. They live in rural East Texas. So this thing is moving rapidly out of the cities and into rural areas. Be careful out there, folks. Quoting: PrezofTX Thanks, Pres. My son and his family still live out on the South Plains. They are close enough to the NM line. I've been keeping track of the numbers out there in the small towns. It's out there in some big enough for population size numbers. They never had a really big spike and it's stayed fairly level. Lubbock on the other hand.....they don't take it very seriously from what I can gather, either. Prayers for the family. The population out near NM is tiny. I hope it doesn't get out of hand. I have family in San Angelo. They had a spike about a month ago, but it has calmed down. Not eager for the labor day spike. It is, but you have to go to Lubbock for just about everything. Even Levelland has the community college with foreign students and out of state kids. Snyder, closer to San Angelo and Abilene has similar and they have had a small spike, about the same time as SA. My son and dil, like a lot of people in the surrounding towns, work in Lubbock. |

Me too, I am taking another camping trip a week from today. Another new moon and the sun has been acting up to I am hoping it continues for northern lights as I will be on the shore of Superior. I'm gonna need to bring winter gear I think for the temps at night!! I am hoping its less busy but in all actuality, its going to be riskier than my last trip just due to everyone that is going up this weekend. Spreading it out in the rural areas like what is happening in TX it appears. As long as I take all my supplies I should only need to stop for gas. And I have plenty of supplies thanks to prepping. I was going to maybe rent a cabin with wifi after camping so I could just stay up there and work for the rest of the week but nope. I'd rather stay outside in my own space so got a tethering plan for my cell phone and hope to find a site with service somewhere. I just feel like I should stay up north for a bit longer than the 5 days I originally had planned. Mid Sept feels very doomy...isn't there an asteroid supposed to pass close by? Oh and not to mention all the earthquake activity. Maybe its good to get out of the city/suburbs for a second, lol. I know UD mentioned Sept 15/18 or something I read yesterday Hope everyone has a great weekend. Do something that brings you joy and doesn't contribute to spreading the virus Have an absolutely wonderful trip! I'll be there in spirit! I think the astroid already went by, but it's 2020! There might be another one that I missed. LOL Keep an eye and camera ready for more northern lights! Please! |

P13315 ... Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78576165 You seem to forget that there were full lockdowns in place then. Today, we are being fed that all is doing well but keep wearing a mask. The push is to reopen and live with the virus. Your bipolar view of the virus is nauseating. Your view almost echoes the very people who have gambled on people lives from the get go of this pandemic. Have you no conscience? That's crappy of you. If you haven't noticed, at this juncture, there's no choice BUT to figure out how to live with this. We could have beaten it, but the powers that shouldn't be gave conflicting and confusing information and decided to go for profit over people and made this pathogen political. No vaxx will work. A lockdown won't even work now because it's pervasive. We can hide forever or learn what works to mitigate it and try to be careful. So you agree with me that the death toll would be higher in the future due to the dangerous push to reopen and live with the virus. Wordsworth has a habit of making things light though forecasts are grim. Yes we should reopen WHEN it's safe. Nobody said we shouldn't but the push is politically driven and have no bearing to how many lives are lost. My position is that we should act responsibly and take care to avoid exposure and increase our immune system's ability to function VERY well. I think they have jacked up everything about this pathogen and are continuing to do so. I think opening schools is flatly insane and that parents should network with their friends and create "pods" as they say if they absolutely cannot homeschool themselves. Many people can't due to work/debt/bills etc. So yes, I agree that we shouldn't be so open that all sense falls out. But I disagree with CC on several things in this. Probably the largest disagreeance is on HCQ and zinc. But I appreciate her viewpoint as well. And some of her imgur links are absolutely hilarious! I don't see it as being an ELE, but it's completely destroyed our "normalcy" and there is no returning to that. The economy and supply chain damage is done, and the effects of that will begin to multiply out of control. I think we should be open, but careful. I think people should go outside and to beaches, but stay away from others outside of their group. I don't think we need to wear masks outside if we keep some distance from those out of normal everyday contact -family, roomates, etc. And I don't think having giant indoor venues is intelligent at all. We need the actual truth. And it is increasingly difficult to find. My biggest concern is that with all the hoopla and mis-dis information and the propaganda that "there is no pathogen and masks actually HURT you" is going to get us wiped out in late fall and winter due to less natural vitamin D and more intermingling indoors. I'm not calling any dates on when it will become untenable. But I do think this winter is going to be a disaster. Mostly because I think the majority of people think there is no pathogen and have been massaged into fearing logical action to mitigate spread of ALL pathogens. If there is a more deadly pathogen in the offing...I am concerned it will be absolutely devastating. My opinions are based on research and I apply a requirement. I check funding sources and want 2 studies with the same information from disparate sources that do not have a financial dog in the game. We agree on most points Fluffy Pancakes. Unfortunately, human behavior has proven that we don't follow the guidance. We've seen the cycles of loosening rules against the pandemic so everyone can go back to school, go back to work, and get that normalcy back. Everytime, we see the spikes come back. Of course with the exception of New England (insert eyeroll here). They must be genetically immune there. Even in obedient societies, there always seems one reckless act that brings back the virus. You're well meaning. I think we all are just hoping for a better outcome but there's always the saying, To err is human. Not ELE but damn near close. Only time will tell, right? |

I don't think it's a viable option to grow food on solar power... it would be far less expensive to buy a 10 year supply of shelf stable food as opposed to build a solar setup which may only last for 10 years and probably wouldn't supply as much nutrition. |

I am sorry about tricare. .... if you retired to Arizona ;) there were more providers. The desert thing is a bit concerning.....knowing what we know.... I would rather have access to water and death by New Madrid versus dehydration. We thought we'd be ok, with all the hospitals and doctors between Toledo and Cleveland. We have Prime, so we can't see any of them. If we dropped down to the free version of Tricare, we COULD see a doc here, but almost everything would be out of pocket. Just can't afford that. So, we drive. If we drop Prime to use the free version, there's a good chance we won't be able to pick Prime back up in the future. So far, we've been able to tests and lab work here and don't have to drive up for everything. We've been able to get referrals to specialists here, too. It works with planning. |

Speaking to Anadolu Agency on Friday, Elina Ciptadi, a co-founder of KawalCovid-19, said the fatality rate from the virus among children in Indonesia is 1,000 times higher than that of the United States, the worst-hit nation globally in terms of infections. <50% [link to www.aa.com.tr (secure)] this is the problem with the virus mutating. it is doing so different in every place. but it travels aboard planes and ships from there.even if YOUR area has a less deadly variation,u never know what mitght b coming in next. so yeah it is a fire breathing dragon that ain't burning YOUR house down as long as it is facing your neighbor. don't spook the damn thing or throw rocks at it thou. it is not an ELE, until it is u and your dog. we just hope CHINA had frezers for all the cats. reread and check the wording "UNTIL". not IF. but when JAZZZ50 2020 The SHTF literally as TP ran out. we went from being over the target, to actually being the target. too close to the truth. if i had a dollar for everytime someone says "merge" without using the word, i'd b so green i'd b King of Mars. |

P13315 That’s a good RW question.....how well can solar work through dreary winter days..... in Iowa we get a decent amount of sun, but when the dreary does come.... it can be over 7 days, at times ..... it is why we use wind power so much out here. Quoting: SpinalCracker I wonder if we could do a small system of both? Solar panel output can drop by as much as 75% at the lowest point of the winter, depending on your lattitude. One of the reasons I stayed in South Texas to retire is that the hypothesis about solar minimum may be true. If it gets substantially colder whether due to the solar output, volcanoes erupting, nuke wars, or whatever, I can still plant crops here. In fact, we can almost plant through all seasons here. I have seen turnips and beets survive the freezes we have as and even light snow. The downside is the BUGS. My gardening is beset with pests. Gotta stock up on pesticides to ensure a crop. |
