I have my suspicions about the agenda behind the hoaxtards. Suffice it to say I do not believe they are not real conservatives by any stretch, but are part of psyops. /tinfoil

Having said that, I will give my real world impressions from people here in my neck of the woods in GA, both on the COVID and economic front. People are taking it seriously, and We still see more masks than not.

My husband’s business (which had to stay open as essential), had to hire 80 people recently. This was very hard, it’s hard to get people to work when they can make more money staying home. Also, he is having the same problem with truck deliveries to his store as they are having the same issues hiring. But he has to stay open because if he doesn’t, some people don’t eat.

Second, while some argue that no one they know have the virus, we know many who have had mild and severe cases, including ICU and intubation as well as some long haulers and reinfections. These are real. The reinfection cases are worse the second time. Also, the people who were in ICU or incubated have a very long road to recovery. One acquaintance is having PT to learn to walk and talk again.

My son works in a hospital as a contractor and he has seen some crazy damage to hospital rooms by COVID patients. Nurses tell him that some of their cases really lose it. Chalk them up to brain issues we’ve been hearing about.

Measures do work. My husband makes his employees wear masks, gloves, distance and he take temps 3 times a day. If an employee has the sniffles, they go home, even if it’s allergies. He is the rule enforcer and if someone breaks protocol, he makes them wash, re-glove and re-mask. Employees have to distance from customer and each other. Cannot take breaks together, etc. it is a hard environment but his employees appreciate it months after the fact because not one of them or their family has gotten sick, while his colleagues cannot say the same. They are all onboard with it now, seeing that it works. Also, this is in a county with nearly 30k cases, including many in the same type business, and he has many high-risk people, so the odds are he should have sick employees. This is evidence these measures work.

With these measures, he has managed not only to stay in business but he is still making a modest profit. 120 people are still working. All of them are healthy so far. His business is a lot different than normal (everything is curbside, delivery or carry out) but it still works. It is possible to maneuver COVID without shutting everything down, but it take commitment and 100% compliance from everyone.

Most people I talk to are onboard with a treatment plan, but very adverse to a rushed vaccine.

Finally, most people I know are not ok with mandatory anything. They are ok with specific spot lockdowns, quarantines, and contact tracing but not full scale - I.e, locking down a whole state for one county.

This is where it gets difficult. I am not for mandatory masks statewide, but I also believe that it may become necessary because people are selfish and stupid these days. It’s a lot like drunk driving laws that protect you from people with zero common sense. Ideally people would do the right thing, but it’s obvious now, they won’t.

I support and will still vote for Trump for political reasons I won’t got into here, but he is clueless when talking about this virus and certainly is losing anyone who may be in the fence. I cringe every time he talks about COVID.

The world is fucked. But seeing that doesn’t make someone a fear mongering demon.

It is easy to see the damages and changes coming with 10000 plus pages of discussion.

But anyone that still compares this virus to the flu ain’t ready for round after round after round until most of the world won’t leave their homes.

My local and biggest hospital in Poland is about to be transformed to Covid hospital.Director of this hospital is furious he asked what about patients with terminal cancer ,after strokes or on dialysis.Where we will send them?

Cite your facts of how this will become an endless round after round until the whole world needs total isolation to prevent spread because of the dangerous Covid. That’s a pretty dangerous virus.

One more addition to my diatribe. My husband also isolated from the rest of us to protect his elderly father. We may all get it eventually, but ideally we all won’t get it at the same time so that at least one of us is healthy to take care of everyone else

I'm glad to hear that people are taking the virus seriously in your area. They are here, too, for the most part (SF Bay Area) but there are definite exceptions.

We already have covid patients diverted to other hospitals here (rural). It’s not “official” but listening to the scanner for a while, it’s pretty obvious.

I HOPE I am wrong along with most of my colleagues on this thread. My initial fears and forecasts have NOT come out the way I predicted. We have a much lower infected rate and much lower mortality rate.

However, like many here, I counsel prudence with regard to this bio threat. Few listen, at least in my family and personal life.

IMHO, we could cut the rate of spread, but the drive to keep the economy open and people's desire to live normally will defeat those efforts.

However, I DO think it is possible for individuals, whether high risk or not, to organize their lives to avoid infection.

Many of us can work from home and have all essentials delivered or use parking lot pickup. With appropriate decontamination, we can probably survive just fine staying at home.

I never went to movies, sporting events, concerts, etc. anyway.

I am blessed to be in self-quarantine with a beautiful woman who loves me.

I only have moments to drop in during the day. Right now, I need to go tend to my chickens.

Yeah, I mean, I run with a pretty conservative crowd and ZERO people among my peers think like the nothingburgers in these forums.
