I disagree. I think with an 8-week full lockdown - and I mean FULL lockdown, as in nobody is on the streets except military and emergency services - combined with a complete shutdown of all foreign visitors, you could bring the virus to very manageable limits. The stock market would have to be closed, all monthly bills of any kind suspended for that 8-week period, food and RX delivered to people by National Guard, etc. I am talking a complete and total shutdown of the nation and the economy for two months. Nobody has to pay anybody anything for any reason, therefore, nobody has to go to work, except for the aforementioned military and emergency services.

Then open back up right where you left off, but maintain the isolation of the country from foreign visitors and jump on any new clusters immediately, as soon as you have a single positive. The country could probably return to 80% - 90% of normal.

Hey guys? When you go to your news sites, do they still have covid sections/tabs? Do they still let you read the covid stories for free, like they used to?

My local sites have gotten rid of the sections AND most of the stories are hidden as side bars on other stories. I stumbled onto that yesterday.

Based on current knowledge that antibodies fade and become undetectable within 2-4 months, a vaccine will not result in immunity...just temporary protection. If it works?

Everyone will need a vaccination every 3 months. Those infected and recovered can get reinfected.

The virus will mutate because vaccinations vs those unvaccinated will eventually produce viruses that the vaccine is not effective against...virus survival is assured since the virus survives 28 days on certain common surfaces.

Biggest question is not how many fatalities, it is the long term impact of the virus? Once infected are you ever really free of the virus? Someone will eventually re-spread the virus and hot spots will pop up!

I sent four emails to the Governor of Texas back in Feb. proposing exactly this plan. Total shutdown of the state with NO travel outside the home for 8 weeks.

As far as returning to normal, I think that we should prudently change all processes and practices of daily life to limit the spread of the virus.

We CAN modify almost every aspect of our lives including education, work, shopping, and all industrial processes to prevent the spread.

I fully understand the reluctance to accept this new reality. I can see the argument against it, but do not agree. It would result in lower standards of living world wide.

I worry most about third world countries where people will literally starve to death if incomes drop.

However, if the virus continues we get to the same end point regardless.

Quick Example: Our male Husky disappeared a few days ago. Clearly escaped the fence. I figured most likely dead because he has no experience dodging traffic.

JOY! Got a call from a veterinarian's office an hour ago. Some guy brought our Husky in and the vet read the chip. They called me immediately.

Had to enter the vet office to get my dog. Mask, eye protection, of course.

Drove home with the windows partly open.

When we got home, we took off our possibly contaminated clothing on the patio and showered/shampooed immediately.

So, life goes on....with precautions.
