BOCA RATON, FL (BocaNewsNow.com) — A first grader at Whispering Pines Elementary School in West Boca Raton tested positive for COVID-19 last Wednesday, but neither the Palm Beach County School District nor the Florida Department of Health notified the boy’s classmates or teacher that they may have been exposed. Instead, after waiting a day for school officials to respond, the boy’s mother took notification into her own hands. She called the parents of every student in the class, and her son’s teacher, to let them know of the positive COVID-19 test.

VIRGINIA KEY, FLA. (WSVN) - Maritime and Science Technology Academy has announced all in-person classes have been canceled after two students tested positive for COVID-19.

The news came Monday morning, just a week after the school reopened to students, teachers and staff.

The district also released a statement about the school returning to fully online campuses, reading in part, “As we communicated with the school’s students, parents and employees yesterday, two MAST students have tested positive for COVID-19. In an abundance of caution and in consultation with the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade, schoolhouse instruction has pivoted to online learning to ensure that all individuals who came in close contact with the two students are notified, through the District’s school investigation and contact tracing protocols.”

Miami-Dade County Public School officials also said the school has been thoroughly sanitized.

MAST Academy is the most recent school in the district to report cases of COVID-19.

Never trust governments!

When and how will we the people know if the government has given up on stopping the spread and have given in to letting the virus do what it will eventually do? Will the government tell us we have lost the battle to stop the virus?

Today is about the same for everyone. My temp is 99 and I’m normally 97.8
I feel like I’m getting laryngitis, which I get every time I get any bug. I’m in a strange mood. Apathetic extreme. I keep thinking “what am I even doing”. Everyone’s lethargic. No one is having hearing issues. I did get very light headed a few minutes ago when I stood.
The bug colonies look fine today. Normal adult cricket loss. No adult roach loss. It’s heard to tell about the babies...super quick and super tiny. But I can still see tons of movement in the chaff where they stay.
DS got up to do online class work this morning. His cough sounds horrible. Has a stitch in his side at about the midpoint of his rib cage. Says he’s not as achy. DD not coughing much. She feels the worst. My cough is the same dry and unproductive. I feel like there was more I wanted to add but can’t remember what. Oh well.

So what is the UK government doing?

They tell us we are now where we were on the 23rd March when a full lockdown was started. Hospital beds at the same capacity and doubling every week.

So they announce a three tier system. The highest level still comes nowhere near a full lockdown and they only issue that on one city - Liverpool! Hardly any changes to the rest of the whole country.

After lockdown last time we didn't get back to the start level of admissions for 4 months and for over a month ran at 4000 admissions day or more.

Riff, I agree completely.

I sent four emails to the Governor of Texas back in Feb. proposing exactly this plan. Total shutdown of the state with NO travel outside the home for 8 weeks.

As far as returning to normal, I think that we should prudently change all processes and practices of daily life to limit the spread of the virus.

We CAN modify almost every aspect of our lives including education, work, shopping, and all industrial processes to prevent the spread.

I fully understand the reluctance to accept this new reality. I can see the argument against it, but do not agree. It would result in lower standards of living world wide.

I worry most about third world countries where people will literally starve to death if incomes drop.

However, if the virus continues we get to the same end point regardless.

Quick Example: Our male Husky disappeared a few days ago. Clearly escaped the fence. I figured most likely dead because he has no experience dodging traffic.

JOY! Got a call from a veterinarian's office an hour ago. Some guy brought our Husky in and the vet read the chip. They called me immediately.

Had to enter the vet office to get my dog. Mask, eye protection, of course.

Drove home with the windows partly open.

When we got home, we took off our possibly contaminated clothing on the patio and showered/shampooed immediately.

So, life goes on....with precautions.

I'm guessing that counterfeit vaccination IDs will be available on the black market very soon.

I did read something interesting on Twitter earlier. Someone was saying that Whitty said the restrictions announced today won’t be enough but it is down to local leaders to add to the basic restrictions the government have set. Basically saying the gov are passing the buck so the blame lies locally if things go (as they inevitably will) badly wrong.

The virus has likely infected 5-8% of the world, and killed 2-4 million people. It’s more widespread than most other viruses and on par with the flu or cold viruses. There is zero chance that we will ever be rid of it. Unless we got a 100% effective vaccine (probably impossible) and spent twenty years vaccinating the world, it’s just a thing now. Forever. Lockdowns made sense in March. They don’t now. Restrictions make sense when hospitals are overwhelmed, but there’s really not much we can do.

I think with unknowns about the virus, it can very well increase the mortality rate on variables explained by DR on his thread.

Going on as normal as possible will lead to more reckless behaviors and overwhelm all resources.
