Which is kind of amusing. Part of the argument against lockdowns was mental health concerns..... they do this and the mental health breakdowns would be enormous.....

It's easy to say you don't need a break when you're not in the shit every day. I can promise you there's no more risk on a 1/4 capacity cruise ship where one can sit outside for the entire day vs being in the same unit in the hospital for 13 hours with known and unknown covid pts. The cruise ships are going to be the cleanest places on earth because they need to get up and running again. I'd rather take my chances in the sun, with a drink in my hand staring out into the ocean than in the ER with ungrateful pts and doctors both yelling at you and you haven't peed or eaten in 11 hours.

Maybe on a voluntary basis. Retirees are in the high risk category due to age. Plus there's a HUGE learning curve from when people retired to now. The changes in PPE, equipment and medication are constant and it would take a long time to get people up and running on their own again. Hospitals need to start taking care of their employees, period. They laid off a ton of people during the lockdowns and are now in deep shit. They haven't rehired nurses after the lockdowns because we were able to keep the hospital afloat with less people so they count on us to stay now. Well, that shit won't fly and more nurses will leave than ever before if they don't get some help.

I'm seeing reports in nursing groups that some docs are refusing to go into pt rooms and asking the NURSE what their assessment was and/or getting the nurse to gown up and go into the room with the ipad for a telehealth visit. These same docs are still getting full salary while nurses are being shit on. Me, I'd tell them to get fucked and go in the room themselves, but the new nurses still have "doctor fright" and are scared to stand up for themselves.

I really am! I still wonder if I had it in late January/early Feb when our ER was full of SOB, Fever, Pneumonia, but all of the pts were testing negative for the flu when we were sure they had it. I was sicker than I've ever been for a week. Temp 102.8 for a couple of days, had to get IV fluid before I could pee, lost smell and taste. Was the craziest thing I've ever had in my 40 years of life. I remember talking to one of the ER docs and asking him wtf was up with all the negative flu tests and the people all having FLS. He said he'd noticed it also and couldn't figure it out. Well, I think we know now!!

The problem with this state of affairs is that most people won't realize what's actually happening inside hospitals till it's much to late. Things are really lining up for the US to get a pretty big reality check in the next few weeks.

IMHO you deserve that cruise btw. I agree that it would be a lower risk situation in the both the covid and general well-being departments.

I have never been in a hospital, but my combined time of nursing a sick little man would have any average person begging for a vacation. And I haven’t had a real one....in five years.

And that whole potty and food thing..... I love you all and appreciate every single hospital staff person because I am not built for that level of stoopid. And Zeph and I spent over a several months (admitted and ER visits) over the first 3 years of his life..... and corporate culture has a lot to do with it too.... our nursing staff was treated like the gold that they are.
