When I was a kid, Pop took me to the deer lease. All of the wives stayed in the cabin to drink coffee and play cards.

My Aunt Gloria invariably took a good buck shooting out the window during the card game. We had a 100 yard range out behind the cabin where they used clothes pins to put targets on the barbed wire fence. She amused herself shooting the pins off the targets from the cabin window.

BTW, my Uncle left me a set of antique wood working tools, some of them over 150 years old. I am gifting them to one son-in-law next week and someday they will pass down to my grandson.

I watched the "final table read" of the "good place" of their last show (where they mix clips of the actual show with the cast sitting and reading the script out loud) and it hit me hard again..and no, I wasn't eating jalapeno poppers this time...readers here over the past few weeks will remember one of the characters was talking about eating one at the same time I was eating one watching the show...a weird synchronicity...

anyway, just want to say you all here are "my good place" especially lately..my friends from all over the world brought together for no real apparent reason and we share our lives here without knowing really why..it's a mystery on the good old pale blue dot.

Just a good evening to y'all. I grew up with a single mom, and my grandma was my second parent. I miss her every single day, and I often feel her presence with me. I don't know if it's a literal thing, or she's just a part of me, but I know I feel her influence often.

Hope you are all hanging on okay. I'm not nuts about the idea of a mandated vaccine, particularly not a rushed one. I don't do well with vaccines, and neither do a lot of other people with dysfunctional immune systems. Then again, we also wouldn't do well with COVID, so it's kind of a lost game either way.

True, I have some stories that I love.

However, The Queen, has much more powerful stories. Yesterday for the first time, she told me of the time when she had two children in El Salvador barely out of diapers. She was separated from her first husband who was violently abusive.

The communist rebels invaded the city of San Salvador to try and conquer urban territory. She made a shelter out of mattresses where she tried to shield the little ones from the bullets tearing through the walls by laying on top of them.

Later, she turned on her multi-band radio that she had gotten from her father. She listened to the rebel communications on their radio band.

She recognized the voices of guerilla commanders and their names from the time when she was held captive by them.

The next morning she evacuated when the Salvadorean Army came to take the citizens to safety. She told them EXACTLY who was attacking where, what communist guerilla units were there, and who was commanding them.

The government evacuated the civilians and then used artillery to level the areas held by the rebels.

She told me that the communist rebels were not all Salvadorean. The communists came from Cuba, Venezuela, Argentina, and other countries. She could tell by the accents from their home countries.

My friends, we could face something along these lines if our legal system does not protect us from an attempted coup.
