Sorry Henry, I couldn't post back until now. Was busy. Hate to burst your conspiracy bubble, but NO cameras in the rooms. The owners of the smaller properties are too cheap. The cameras at our last hotel were all spying on the employees, instead of keep guests safe.

The big hotels won't do it either. They have theirs placed for safety like hallways, pools, parking lots, etc. Forget ethics for a minute, it would be cost prohibitive to put them in rooms.

Anyway, my comment was about cleanliness or lack of it.

By my count, we are at the peak of the second wave nationwide for the most part.

TX-FL-AZ-CA-GA had their second wave immediately after their first, lined up with pretty much the rest of the northern hemisphere.

The cause is anyone's guess... I think it's the schools, others think it's the cooler temperatures.

I've seen several experts on the MSM lately saying it's not the cooler weather. Obviously it doesn't help, but it's not the root cause.

Dunce caps and all, I still stand by my low hanging fruit theory. I think opening the schools exposed a lot of people that previously were low risk.

If I'm right, by Christmas we should be back down to pre-fall surge level of daily cases and will stay that way for at least the rest of the winter.

But... as I've said for a while, I have no idea what's gonna happen after the first wave. Suppose all eyes still on Spain, they are the furthest into this out of any nation.

I think we need to do a "granular analysis" of the Thanksgiving threat, to quote everyone's favorite Fun Aunt/Immunologist.

Everywhere in America is fucked right now. Traveling isn't going to introduce the virus into a region with low numbers, because at the moment there are none.

So... we have a bunch of people visiting family and having a single afternoon of close contacts. Some of them will surely be infected.

But... at least anecdotally, in New England people stopped isolating from family sometime in the middle of summer. Yet disaster did not follow.

Sure, there will be many maskless dinners that one day. Will that result in the infected people spreading the virus significantly more than the 14 contagious days they will spend with their co-workers with their mask pulled down below their nose?

A month and a half ago, I went to a bar for the first time in 2020 and ate dinner in a room full of about 25 people... none of whom were wearing masks. It was a bad idea that I won't be repeating.

That bar had the same thing going on 7 days per week since they were allowed to re-open in June, they mostly cater to contractors from all over the US. How is that not way worse than a one-time deal? More close contacts in that one bar than probably everyone in that town will do on Turkey day.

I disagree with RW. not all areas of the country have been hit hard. here we saw outbreaks in nursing homes back in spring. it did not break loose in the public. most cases were in several nursing homes to the west. Ithaca did have a couple cases that were sent to it by NYC.

we had some caes after the July 4th holiday.as ppl traveled during the summer,we maintained at double didgit case #'s in nearby counties.

then as schools opened we had more outbreaks and clusters. the local news tried to keep the # of current cazses down.after a while the # in PA looked bad cause it was the total case #. so the local news, 4 or 5 mths into things,decided to call the counties in Pa and re-plan how to reporrt the #'s.they started dropping all cases at 10day intervals assuming all had recovered.

with the magic recovery # subtracted every few days and some trick math like adding new cases the day after subtracting, the local news held the total of the surrounding counties. started out <500,then 750.slowly it edged up where the local news and county health depts couldn't cover the #'s up. it got bad enuf they delayed reporting of 1 county til late at night. hope was by the next day recoveries would drop the #.you could see the yoyo during the week. but each WED the # was higher than the week before.

i'll add that all counties are reporting the data differently. some do give where the ppl were. 1 does now and then give an age break down.PA doesn't even list county health pages to get daily #'s.

we hit 1000 in surrounding counties with the prison outbreak.that is back to singal digits and yet the total is over 1500 with the 2 PA counties in full climb.NY county to my east is now in yellow alert zone.the yellow zone is moving around my county.

the virus is moving west across the north PA counties now.next county over is just starting to climb. since end of OCT,PA's northern counties have doubled our total case #.and they are still climbing.

there are remote towns with many elderly that have not been near an infected person yet.the viral load u get from paying the cashier at a grocery store is much less than if u sit with 10-20 family members talking over dinner.

Note that since July, air travelers per day has ranged from 700k-800k to occasionally over 1 million.

It's not that large of an increase.
