ok, guess i have to explain the dictatorship we all live under. yes we do, they just call it something else and allow u to think u vote for the BS.

$$ flows up to the top. then the fed hands some down to states.states take their cut. hand some to county. rules come from top down also. the local leaders have 0 power. they do what they are told or no $$.simple.

now CA and NY play games. they want ppl poor in those states. why? cause the more poor ppl the more the FED hands to the state. then the state takes a bigger piece of the pie and hands crumbs to counties.

this is also why schools opened. had nothing to do with the safety of kids. was all the $$. it is also why the states do not want to shut down any businesses. those businesses make sales tax to the county and state income taxes for the workers. it has absolutely nothing to do with common sence, medical right /wrong,or what is good for the ppl. it is all GREED.

shall i explain more? why do DEM's want to "give" u a minimum wage increase? cause every 1 dollar u get ,they get a nice cut of. the more u get the more $$ in their pockets. think i am wrong? explain why the grid and bridges are in dis-repair since we the ppl paid taxes specifially for those projects???? where did all the green go??????? in somebodies pocket.

now this system will not stand. it has to fail. to bandaid it, for decades what has been done? raise minium wage to hide reality. u think u got more $$ so u whistle and go to work. when the fact is the governments, plural fed, state, ountny, can hide how broke they are. they get thru this year by claiming they have more income due to the wage increases. but the next year what happens? the wages of govern workers goes up also to eat up the gain. and the crooked leaders keep paying the hoookers and lobster and filling their pockets.

if the system wasn't brooken we all would b rich. we are now making 100 times what ppl did 100 yrs ago. yet u can not buy as much with the $$ now as back then. your average lifestyle and buying power is bout half what it was. go look up housing prices. or cars.oh and by the way most families then were huge compared to now with 1 INCOME. u have 2 usually today fighting to survive.

How many months?

When will a scenario play out that requires preppers to utilize gear? Survival gear and food supplies especially all the supplies bought during the first year of Covid?

Is there a consensus amongst the peers here?

Yes take supplements that help you but folks don’t think the above is going to protect you from everything out there.

Just take precautions. Just like you wouldn’t eat out of a rancid trough, don’t leave the house without PPE.

OK, humor break.

A guy is walking down the street in Miami. An old lady comes up and tugs on his sleeve.

She say, "You're Manny Horowitz. I know you".

He asks, "From where do you know me?"

"I'm Sadie, from the old apartment building. Where have you been?"

He tersely replies, "Sadie, you don't wanna know".

That drives her crazy. She continues to follow him down the street pulling on his arm, "So, where have you been? Its been 25 years".

Again, he replies, but more firmly, "BELIEVE ME. YOU DON'T WANNA KNOW!"

She can't stand it and insists.

Finally, he stops and says, "Prison. I was in prison for 25 years". Shocked, she insists on knowing how a nice boy went to prison.

He gives up. "Sadie, I got mad at my wife. I beat her to death with a baseball bat. I cut her up in little pieces and flushed her down the toilet".

Sadie brightens up and exclaims, "Sooo, yer SINGLE!"

Gotta tell that one in a Yiddish accent for full effect.

If it follows the Spanish Flu the 2nd Wave will be worse than the first...if so

We ain't seen nothing yet

If it is the 2nd wave then It's going to be much less severe

The 1st Wave is just now dying down in the Midwest

Word says Ga. is in the 2nd Wave

I'll say We are still in the 1st Wave , even looking at this

Here's why

Testing is quite routine now, people are getting multiple tests here in Ga.

Whatever this Wave is it's no worse than what we've seen before

For example, my grandson got a Bushmaster AR and 1000 rounds for his 10th birthday. He has been shooting for years under his Father's supervision.

I just told him, "Keep that muzzle up and downrange".

Maybe West Point Class of 2032?

BTW, his little sister, my granddaughter, is getting a Model 1896 7MM Mauser that I custom hand loaded to have almost zero recoil. She should be able to shoot it just fine. Good for her first deer.

less than 50% (has a lot of info of how testing sewage has advanced, along with info on other cities)

MIAMI — In March, when it became clear that the U.S. was facing an unprecedented pandemic, Miami-Dade County began sampling its sewage as a potential tool for measuring the extent of COVID-19 infections. The hope was that testing the county’s poop for the coronavirus could serve as an early warning indicator of a dreaded second wave expected in the fall.

Now, with cases rising all over the country and Florida experiencing a steady increase to levels not seen since August, what is the sewage saying?

The short answer: Not much, at least not yet. The process got off to a slow, messy start but they’ve cleaned up the data and there is still some promise it will work.

I was rather busy today, so I didn't post much...

I don't what to say about all this sniping at each other that derails the thread.

This is GLP, so I expect a certain amount of the sniping--nonetheless it is detrimental and I believe it is driving people away...

I come here looking for information (from the news and first hand accounts, which has often been very very helpful) and analysis and discussion. I appreciate the humor and doom breaks too.

I try to reciprocate in my postings. I shy away from the arguments and personal attacks, for the most part. I have been known to express some snark for posters who are imo, shilling, trolling, whatever... this recent "branching out" seems to have "roots" in propaganda, but some of their postings have "leaves" of interest to all of us here. Someone posted about the "double think" the media is doing these days and I believe that's an accurate supposition.

We need to have as much information as possible to recognize both sides or more accurately the multiple angles/approaches to these new vaccines...whether we personally will take them (highly unlikely for most of us here) but it is highly likely that they will be affecting us with respect to our workplaces, family, friends, etc. as the distribution gets underway.

Additionally, ACs posing questions should not be attacked imo---the one I am referring to is the one about the dry ice and the handling of the vaccine. That to me is a very legitimate question and I appreciate the other AC who posted the article from USA Today that had important information. Dry ice is a very volatile substance in that I know it can kill you if you are in an enclosed area with it. It also can dissolve alot more quickly than what traditional guidelines say --ie. I have shipped and received perishable items through the years and learned the hard way to pack more dry ice to keep foodstuffs cold and also received food that I had to throw out because the dry ice was gone...so the dry ice issues are of interest to me as well as the whole thawing thing of the vaccine. Just because I'm not going to take the vaccine (at least initially, if ever) doesn't mean I don't want to know about it...

This sniping detracts from the personal stories of the posters here I think of my friends. I hope for all of them that they stay in good health. Several posters have either stopped posting or became infrequent on here. Part of me worries when they stop posting and I start to fear the worst. Or that I missed something and they left and I am left wondering what happened to them. It seems to me at times there is more PMs going on and I feel out of the loop.

I often try to mention people's handles to let them know they are important and they are missed...tbh I was a little miffed last week because I felt like no one missed me (in addition to the other stuff going on in my life) because this thread and the people on it are important to me. Having said that, I don't mean to sound petulant or pouty, but I am human and I like feeling like I have friends here.

I talked to today to one of the other posters here, and I realized how great it was to talk, to have a conversation. And for me, it also made me realize how isolated I have become. My mom always said, "to have a friend, be a friend," and I have diligently tried to do that all my life. The past four years, though, it has been difficult irl, mainly because of working full-time and caring for my husband through the cancer battle...it is difficult because those who knew my husband before get upset when they see him now and have become distant, to the point I have reached out to some folks and it's awkward because I think they initially think I am getting in touch to let them know that...well, you know...I don't want to even type it...

Plus I don't have to tell you all about the sh-tshow of social media these days and how the pandemic prevents us from getting together, but even before the pandemic all the political stuff had alienated people and strained relationships. Plus in my particular situation I have had to be particularly careful in what I say in posting, etc.

So posting on GLP has been liberating, because I have been able to express my opinions, anger, joy, frustrations without fear of repercussions. Plus I have gained much education here...from stuff that might be considered things from the "street," the metaphysical, religious, to all the military uncle stuff, and life in general, guy stuff like the hunting season, how guys feel about women and stuff my husband wouldn't say to me as well strings of profanity that would make the dad in A Christmas Story feel proud; and prepping too.

I have avoided getting involved when other posters start arguing with each other, as much as I can...

I just want to say:
Hnry, I hope your situation improves soon
Riff & av201 that you dodged the virus
Wordsworth, I miss your stories and analysis and please ignore your critics
Dutchy, your number crunching gave me hope earlier and I look to your analysis
Dangerous Times, your news updates every morning I look forward to, and Snuffie I always look for yours
Texan Buckeye is thoughtful and comes up with good things to be aware of and gives me a new perspective
Jazz, you know already I love your humor and your analysis

I am missing hearing from ParamedicUK lately...

CC, we are friends and your research and analysis have been vital and I know your intentions are good but when you know from previous encounters you aren't going to change someone else's mind...Idk, I am all for free speech and more often than not, I am in agreement with your position~I don't really know how to say what I want to say, except what my mom used to tell me "discretion is the better part of valor."

There are so many others on here whom I enjoy reading their posts, Vego, Guythu, Larry, sos, TC the owl, Serenity Now, Darth, just because I am not naming you doesn't mean I don't enjoy reading from you...

I have prattled on long enough that probably I have gained some people putting me on ignore; I hope not. I have not done that neither have I gave anyone red; not to say that I never will...

I started with a link and now I will end with one: I mentioned Pluto.TV is free and has alot of stuff; today husband and I watched a few programs on Tubi and there's a ton of John Wayne movies and '60s westerns and lots of other stuff, so if you are bored or don't have cable, worth a look (I don't know if it works overseas or not, I hope so)

I can say is I hope tomorrow is a better day.

I was just about to post this when I heard the sound of air brakes outside (that whooshing sound) and red flashing lights on my blinds. I just peeked outside and someone in my building just got taken out on a stretcher--not someone I really know because tbh I haven't seen her outside the building--haven't seen many people at all in recent months--but she was on oxygen as near as I could tell from my doorway. So, yeah, reality..

I wasn't going to mention this, but I got a call today about someone we know who was exposed--not someone we have contact with recently--for those of you concerned about contact tracing, I will just go ahead and tell you--it was the supervisor of the home health aides who have been coming out to stay with hubs when I am out, so it is to be expected. She has a baby just over a year old and a elementary aged son. I hope and pray she doesn't get sick.

The day my dad died, I went to the beach and cried and cried and...watched the seagulls. The book, Jonathan Livingston Seagull came to mind because it was and remains one of my all-time favorite books. There are many, many quotes from it I could share, but here are two:

“For in spite of his lonely past, Jonathan Seagull was born to be an instructor, and his own way of demonstrating love was to give something of the truth that he had seen to a gull who asked only a chance to see truth for himself.”

“‘The only true law is that which leads to freedom,’ Jonathan said. ‘There is no other.’

If you haven't read it or want to read it again:

This is one link I found where I think you can read it for free...
[link to openlibrary.org (secure)]

I will repeat, I hope tomorrow is a better day and to my friends in UK and Europe, I hope you take note of the sunrise. And continue to share here; it is appreciated.
Life finds a way.

The research team also identified drugs that are currently on the market for different diseases that they claim block the entry of Covid-19 into human cells by increasing cellular cholesterol. In particular, they found three drugs currently on the market were more than 100-fold more effective in stopping viral entry in human lung cells:

Amlodipine, brand name Norvasc, by Pfizer, to treat high blood pressure and angina.
Tamoxifen, brand name Soltamox by Fortovia Therapeutics, an estrogen modulator, to treat breast cancer.
Ilomastat, brand name Galardin, it’s a matrix metalloprotease inhibitor, that now being manufactured by many companies; a chemotherapy agent, with applications for skincare and anti-aging products.

The other five drugs that were tested — called PIK-111, Compound 19, SAR 405, Autophinib, ALLN -- are used in research but are not yet branded and used in clinical trials for existing diseases.

“There’s four different strains of the common cold that are that are most common. And we develop antibodies to those throughout life. And what we’re seeing here in early results are that some of those may be protective against the coronavirus,” said Newton-Wellesley pathologist Dr. Michael Misialek.

All of that was taken care of years before the pandemic.

Anyone with family and assets should have done this before now. Sounds like it just dawned on you that this is a necessary part of managing ones personal business.

Sorry that you're having to deal with it at this late date.

I redid all my estate planning etc. And estate planning should be reviewed every 3 years or so. Taking care of it years before the pandemic screams that maybe you should take a look at it. So much can change in just a year.

Ref estate planning, I did a lot years ago when I had cancer.

Now because of my age, I revisited my Will.

Decided to distribute all GIFTS now. Why wait if its something they can use right now?

NEW: Los Angeles County bans all in-person dining at restaurants due to surge in COVID cases

[link to mobile.twitter.com (secure)]

They probably should have tried that first, before telling people they need to wear a mask while they sleep.
 Quoting: R. Wordsworth

I get that restaurants needed to make money, but it seems obvious they should have banned indoor dining the entire time. And I don't get people that need to risk death to get a cheeseburger.
I love going out, but it's not worth my life to get a plate of spaghetti.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 71574373

I am sure you understand this, but LA county is going into debt big time every day with the lack of tax revenue. They are desperate to stretch every company to produce tax dollars. Restaurants remained open as long as possible to scoop up those tax $. The world is going into a financial depression, we just have not admitted it yet.

The secret is out... parents have learned they can teach their kids themselves and the kids learn more than before. I think the teachers are part of the sham and have to participate in the lie to keep getting paid. The thing that sets me off is that they are mad at parents who choose to teach their kids themselves or think for themselves. I've heard some teachers even get nasty and claim it's child neglect. Jazz guy is right...it is all about the dollars.
