These estimates tend to get floated from time to time all over the place, it's basically saying that you're through the worst of it already. The most egregious example was that California study where they estimated one county had had 60%+ infected around April.

Most often there is a strong sampling bias in the research done but I'm not going to bother looking into it every time. In the end, even if it's true, real world examples have shown it to be of no consequence in spread and potential future outbreak size. It would be better if they were wrong because it breaks the entire concept of herd immunity.

The truth: California set a new record for cases, but some of it was backlog from LA County.

Without the backlog of 7,000 cases from LA county, CA still registered a record high number of cases yesterday.

Btw my test from Sunday came back neg thankfully. Took more than 4 days when two months ago I could get a result in 12 hours. Shows how busy these labs are here : (

Yes you can eradicate a disease from herd immunity.

However, it needs to be controlled because left unabated equals high mortality.

Right. So "herd immunity" is actually how it must be done. The questions are how and what tools are used. Now what tools do we have to limit disease and spread and worked over the history of modern man?

Nah you can cut off it's food supply. Which in this case is humans. Herd immunity means you accept you are powerless other then to accept biological processes. In the case of vaccination you aid this process, but it does mean you accept that the bug will always be around. Would have been better to isolate and starve it out from the start by simply finding those infected and making sure they do not infect others.
