Hi D - that intrigues me, your friends traveled and vacationed and aren't sick, no problemos. We did not travel like we intended last year. This year I'd like to, but don't trust what may occur. We have family who plan to go to Hawaii this coming September and family that want a reunion in good ole Vegas in November. I figure by that time we should see what's unfolding. My expectations are low, but who knows.

I really enjoy that you think I am on some mission.....

The numbers are going down because the recent big wave is over. It's also important to remember that for every 10 people that go to Florida, many more people are staying home. Most people and businesses are still being careful.

I just transferred from Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to Baltimore, MD, to Naples, Italy. And my observation was that the hotels are mostly empty, the car rental at BWI was deserted (BWI is a pretty big airport but we were the only people on the shuttle bus from the car rental to the terminal), and the international terminal was completely closed down except for our military flight. Granted, it was a late night flight, but all of the stores, bars, restaurants, etc. were closed even though they are supposed to be open until 10pm. Only one Hudson News type store was open right next to our gate. That was it.

We landed in Naples (which is currently closed to commercial air, to my knowledge), where we were met by Italian officials to sign some papers, taken off the plane to go through customs escorted by Italian officials and US military, and then taken directly to our two week quarantine on base (by bus for some people; by personal friends/command sponsors for us).

None of this was scary or Gestapo-like. It was all very orderly and friendly and easy. My point (and I do have one) is that NOTHING is back to normal just yet.

Probably overworked underpaid post-grad students doing gain of function research in unsecured universities all over the world are making a contribution.

Apparently I’m the only one that finds this disturbing.

sos, No, that is down in Sicily......not in our view. But husband is supposed to drive down to Catania this weekend, so I am keeping my eye on it for sure. Thank you for asking! :)
