NIH scientists say they may have found a promising new oral antiviral drug for Covid

The drug, called TEMPOL, can reduce Covid-19 infections by impairing an enzyme the virus needs to make copies of itself once it’s inside human cells, the NIH said.

Tempol is a potent radical scavenger and superoxide dismutase mimetic drug, which is widely used as an antioxidant in both in vivo and in vitro studies. Tempol inhibits the glycation modification of LDL and subsequently blocks the glycated LDL-induced aberrant ER stress associated with endothelial dysfunction

Dr Fauci told CNN on Thursday it was "nonsense" to infer from the email any cosy relationship between himself and the figures behind the Wuhan lab research.

"You can misconstrue it however you want," he said, "that email was from a person to me saying 'thank you' for whatever it is he thought I said, and I said that I think the most likely origin is a jumping of species.
