There is a large untapped pool of federal workers, highly trained and disciplined, who already know a thing or two about operating safely in a contaminated environment. These personnel may be among your neighbors, the ones who put on a military uniform at least one weekend a month. There are already contingency plans for them to respond to domestic mass casualty situations involving radiation, biological, or chemical agents. They have been training since the months after September 11, 2001. They should be alerted now, and staff should be mobilized immediately to refine contingency plans to match the worst case and most likely case scenarios for COVID-19 in the United States.

In the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Army Chemical Corps units, whose core mission had always been decontamination of U.S. military personnel and equipment from radioactive dust, biological, and chemical agents, had a new mission. They would perform the same scouting/surveillance to define a contaminated area’s boundaries and they would perform the decontamination mission, including for people who had become casualties, the end of the decon line becoming the beginning of the medical treatment line. The same mission, only different: instead of “green” equipment, they would go “white” as in medical and civilian lab white, responding to mass casualty incidents inside the United States. They do not carry weapons, because it is not a military threat environment.

Most of these units are in the Army Reserve or National Guard, so they are distributed across the country already. So are the many medical units that are overwhelmingly in the U.S. Army Reserve, but medical personnel are already going to be needed in their communities in their civilian medical roles. Watch for news around the 76th Operational Response Command, headquartered in Utah.

I stepped away for a minute while listening and missed that. Hrmm that would be bad. This briefing is about the same as we've heard so far otherwise. Wash hands, stay home if sick, social distancing, minimize gathers. Considering cancellation of large public events if they see evidence of more spread in the community but right now it's not needed etc...

In short, don't panic, get prepared.

Just like in Italy they discovered the case of local transmission by dropping the CDC guidelines for testing based on travel and started testing based on illness that was serious. So yeah, they're going to start finding more and more of that now, just like Italy.

You have a good point and there should have been closures a few weeks ago. Preppers are already bugged out or will be shortly if they have that option. The only hope is that the bug does not like heat and it will go away once summer starts. Brazil or Mexico will tell us that if there is someone who gets it there that was not in Italy.

I feel like the schools are likely to be reactive, instead of proactive when it comes to closures and am seriously thinking about keeping the kids home this week.

I casually mentioned something to my kids principal on Monday as I was dropping them off, asking about protocols for the potential school closures we might be seeing as per the CDC's announcement from a week ago Friday. He referred me to the County Dept. of Public Health. So I called the Health Dept. up and they were completely clueless as to what to do or what any "line in the sand" might be when it came to announcing closures. They were pretty much just following what the federal and state government was telling them to do....nothing.

They did admit they started coloring outside the lines that the CDC wanted for testing though, that's how they found the case of local transmission. Just like Italy. Stopped just testing people with travel history and instead started testing people that were presenting symptoms regardless of travel. And what do you know? They start showing up.

Think I saw earlier 52 people showing symptoms there :( :(

Hotels hit hard by COVID-19 crisis

Hotels in Brussels have seen bookings fall since the onset of the COVID-19 crisis. The Brussels Hotels Association (BHA) says that so far hotels in the capital have lost 10 million euro due to cancellations that have come about due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus.

I am a public school teacher of +15 years, tenured (France) and can confirm this absolutely.

They will not close schools until there is a confirmed case in the school, at which point it is too late to protect yourself.

Washington state public health official: started testing in state public health lab yesterday. do have authority to test what we want to test, but still largely following CDC guidance. no current backlog. working to test up to 200 specimens/day[/b]

I'm in a little Kentucky town. That is where to be. Anyone dumb enough to stay in a metro area is likely going to make it,then get reinfected or have no HIV meds, and the viral load rises, and they get septic shock, and die.

The smart people who live in urban centers BUT OWN a rural homestead, should leave now.

We are days away from state border closure.

They are activating. They are deploying special units who are supposed to mitigate when there is bioweapon.

Whatever. It doesn't matter whatsoever to a rural prepper.

But if you waiting to bug out to Aunt Sally's when the SHTF, then I'd say GO.
