Has this been shared? I got an update on the cruise industry. They had voluntarily closed down for thirty days. Now, the CDC has mandated that they close or not operate for one hundred days. They have been complying and working with the federal government, but last I read they had not commented on the 100 day notice of closure.

Patients’ condition prior to the treatment with PLX cells

All seven patients approved for treatment under compassionate use program with PLX cells exhibited, prior to treatment, respiratory failure due to ARDS, which is a major cause of mortality and required mechanical ventilation in an ICU.

Four of the patients also demonstrated failure of other organ systems, including cardiovascular and kidney failure, indicating critical disease and poor prognosis.

Good morning GLP.

Sorry for last night's rant.

Good news. My greenhouse survived it's first wind storm.

There was zero damage.

I have bit more work to do on it, before we put it to use.

The water it sheds is causing the ground around it to be muddy. Thinking about french drains, or just trenches with gravel.

Chicken coop area still needs a bit of work, but it's close.

I'll post another pic of it when it's all done.

Immunologist Maria de Sousa died victim of Covid-19

Immunologist Maria de Sousa died this Tuesday in intensive care at Hospital São José after contracting the new coronavirus, according to Público and confirmed the Observer. The 81-year-old Portuguese scientist was mainly known for her work in the field of immunology, especially with regard to the distribution of lymphocytes.

Graduated in medicine in 1963, from the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon, she worked in England, Scotland and the United States. In Portugal too. She was a professor of immunology at the Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences, in Porto, and was decorated by three Presidents of the Republic.

COVID-VIRUS RESISTS HIGH TEMPERATURE TO ALMOST BOILING POINT


French scientists had to bring the temperature to almost boiling point to kill virus.



Results have implications for the safety of lab technicians working with the virus.

The new coronavirus can survive long exposure to high temperatures, according to an experiment by a team of French scientists.


Professor Remi Charrel and colleagues at the Aix-Marseille University in southern France heated the virus that causes Covid-19 to 60 degrees Celsius (140 Fahrenheit) for an hour and found that some strains were still able to replicate.

The scientists had to bring the temperature to almost boiling point to kill the virus completely, according to their non-peer-reviewed paper released on bioRxiv.org on Saturday. The results have implications for the safety of lab technicians working with the virus.

The team in France infected African green monkey kidney cells, a standard host material for viral activity tests, with a strain isolated from a patient in Berlin, Germany. The cells were loaded into tubes representing two different types of environments, one “clean” and the other “dirty” with animal proteins to simulate biological contamination in real-life samples, such as an oral swab.

After the heating, the viral strains in the clean environment were thoroughly deactivated. Some strains in the dirty samples, however, survived.
