So guys... I hit the fucking jackpot today. A power plant called me out of the blue after being referred from another client, they had a major failure and had to shut down since a spare part was not available onsite.

I had the part in stock, but with them not being a contract client I wasn't really super motivated to go since I would have to work in their control room around a bunch of people to fix it.

They were desperate, and said they had a brand new welding respirator they would give me to wear while I worked and I could keep it afterwords... and they would still pay me for the call.

I had never even heard of these things before, they have a HEPA and in this case also a charcoal filter that's remotely mounted with a small battery powered fan to provide purified air under positive pressure to the helmet which totally seals around your neck, so it doesn't matter if you have a beard and it covers your eyes, ears, and nose completely.

Fuck N95, this is a N100!!! They go for somewhere around $1,500 new... this thing is the shit. The welding mask is auto-darkening so you can see through it normally until it detects an arc. They seem to be still fairly available online, so if you have the cash it's totally the way to go.

Anyways I repaired their issue allowing them to start back up and the very first NH Liquor store I passed I made a bee line for... I had been getting dangerously low on Tito's. People are pretty used to seeing customers with masks on now, but everyone definitely paused for a second when I walked in wearing one of these:
