Try living in the middle of a tourist trap.

We have four types of people:

Coughers. They mostly stay inside unless running mainly necessary errands.

Residents who may or may not be wearing masks but act semi-normally and have adapted to the situation.

The tourists who look freaking petrified at the coughers and masks as if we all descended out of a sci-fi alternate reality to ruin their vacation.

The tourists who do not give a fuck and are still partying it up, not social distancing, and drinking their way straight through Armageddon.

But yeah, it aint normal. Nothing about this is normal.

So I changed the assumptions, instead of simply going with 2 weeks prior I found some data on average hospital stay and broke it down for probability of death over a 30 day period - [link to ibb.co (secure)]

Problems with the data set:
-Does not account for people never admitted, it's likely that there is a group that dies before ever making it into hospital systems but the percentage is unknown.
-The data extends to 60 days but the first 30 days capture ~85%-90 of cases

Then shifted the cases back 1 day for 20%, 2 days for 30%, 3 days for 30% and 4 days for 20%.

Graphing that against the data I had to decrease Mortality to 3.3% for the projected cases not to fall below actual cases found at any point (Highest possible mortality rate) - [link to ibb.co (secure)]

This would put the Netherlands at a total of 200k Cases vs 50k recorded.

I took a stroll down Memory Lane. Over a year ago I posted on Pooka's Prepping Even if Poor thread:

People get hung up on the doom flavor of the month, but we never know what is going to hit us.

Sometimes we get warning. I watched Hurricane Harvey as it formed and the projected paths of that storm.

However, I don't think anyone seriously considered what four to five FEET of rain in 24 hours would do to the Houston area.

I will say that Bio Doom is high on my list. Not only do we have natural pandemics but, based on what I have been told, there are a LOT of countries with bio warfare labs.

All we need is for the Andromeda Strain to escape and humanity could get wiped out.

However, I think the most likely dooms to plan/prep for are:

1. Normal household emergencies such as illness, loss of income, house fires, accidents.

2. Financial panics and recessions. They happen regularly. The governments have been spending like drunken sailors and the hangover is inevitable.

3. Political conflict, much more likely than world war. The political divide is serious and I would not be surprised to see more violence and assassinations.

4. Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, forest fires, earthquakes, volcanoes, etc. have always happened and will happen again.

5. Regional conflicts such as India/Paks, Taiwan, Israel/Iran, etc. are likely, but will they spill over?

EMP, tsunami bombs, and thermonuke war are lower on my list mainly because the retaliation would be so severe.

Note that I am not convinced of the micro nova/Earth reversing rotation doom. The amount of energy needed to slow and then reverse the Earth's rotation is so enormous, I think that such an event would melt the crust and end all human life. OK, maybe a micro nova is possible, but I really doubt it repeats exactly every 12,000 years. Few things in the natural world are so precise in cycles.

As I stated, Bio Doom was always at the top of my list. However, I never dreamed it would be so dire with friends and family getting infected by a virus that might take years to kill them.

Never considered that The Queen and I would be hunkered down on our farm, possibly for YEARS.

So I guess we are supposed to believe this is just a formate problem and not a problem of fish and mammals at the market being infected before they were slaughtered.

Really now? Where are all the studies they love to throw at us on this? Seems like it would be pretty easy to do an autopsy on the uncut tissues to prove this if this formite assumption is provable.

I haven’t seen anything but assumptions. Has anybody else? I’m not buying it. So far as I‘m concerned all fish and mammals will be considered infected until proven otherwise.
