(@KNXDavid)

BREAKING: Orange County's Sheriff tells @KNX1070 he will NOT enforce Governor Newsom's new statewide mask mandate. Says it's "each person's responsibility to wear a face covering" but "not law enforcement's responsibility to enforce it".

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77841583

Someone should send that sheriff back to psych 101.

People, if given the choice, will ALWAYS chose the least resistance path.

In this case, NOT wearing a mask.

But hey, muh freedom.

Good morning, all....

Yes on that path, but even a masking wearing one is going to get sick at some point....

Lack of proper decon.

Yes, it is the Global Times, so who knows. But looks like they are trying to push a narrative that the virus has been imported.

China’s CDC experts investigate Xinfadi market three times, announce groundbreaking virus tracing discovery

An initial epidemiological survey shows the coronavirus strain detected at the Xinfadi market in Beijing came from Europe, yet it has existed longer than the current coronavirus strain circulating in Europe, Chinese virologists inferred. They say it is possible that the virus did not mutate during transport as it has been sealed in frozen food, stored in cold and damp conditions.

...The third investigation targeted the water system specifically, including water in which fish were kept. Those samples are currently undergoing testing.

I enjoy how we have been talking about food and the concern we have had since

FEBRUARY

about how to get stuff in the home before the contamination becomes too great.

And check out the second comment....

This food thing is going to make the conspiracy of conspiracy of conspiracy crowd lose the ever-lovin’ minds.

Oh and the water thing.... big cities should be concerned and older packed European villages. But Americans in suburbia with new pipes....not so much.

You can call the local officials to ask how often pipes are replaced. Iowa is often because of winter damage...so I would hope other northern states follow the same path.

I’m not all in on the actual meat being contaminated..yet. And if it is then the only option is to throroughly cook it.

If it is in the actual meat tissue then local butcheries will/should start having problems. I haven’t seen any of that..again, yet.

But definitely keeping an eye on it.

I think it’s still a larger processing plant contamination issue. But as you don’t bother to notice the 100 plus meat processing plants having issues...

Well I suppose you could jump to conclusions.

No. I think we are lucky at this point... contamination yes.... not infected. Well not yet.

But imagine the normal folks that don’t properly prepare or wash.... etcetera.... this will be a continued vector as long as the meat is in circulation.

I think the processing plant contamination is more to do with close working conditions etc.But I would not rule out cross species contamination as we have seen evidence of this in mammals etc. I just think it's unlikely.

If there was a serious problem with the meat and fish industries, we would see the evidence in places such as New Zealand who claim to have eradicated the virus.

If the virus was common place in animals and water, wouldn't we see this in New Zealand? just a thought, don't want to burst your doom bubble..

 Quoting: CleverCreator

The conditions in these places don't help. It's cold and moist with more then just water droplets in the air. Up to now I don't know of any case where human contact wasn't the most reasonable means of transfer.

That said it's also a lot easier to assume that the spread was caused through the path of least resistance so if there was proof of fomite spread it would likely be overlooked. From where I am standing at the moment with the knowledge I have I doubt there is a considerable amount of fomite spread occurring. Nor do I reasonably suspect animals that aren't mammals can be infected.

Given difficulty testing people at the moment there is a understandable lack of proof that cattle like pigs/cows are active carriers of the virus. I purposefully use active carrier because even if the virus can infect other mammals and replicate inside them, not all would develop symptoms if the viability for replication is minimal.

What stands out about the mink farms is that the animals actually showed symptoms of respiratory distress, so the hurdle to warrant testing them was lower. The same happened with the Tiger in the NY zoo and of the dogs/cats tested most were suspect of being a transmission vector. I wouldn't mind seeing studies on cows/pigs but I am not aware of any.

The Chinese claims are wonky. For over a week it was left at traces on a cutting board where salmon was processed. Worker bending over it to cut and breathing down could easily explain that. Still no real claim of there being contamination inside anything processed there but a mystery earlier mutation from Europe that magically suits the "China not bad" narrative is now suddenly found. I wouldn't believe that without outside verification which the chinese most likely will obstruct.

After talking to friends and family I see why TX and FL are having such problems.

TX seems to believe the virus is over. Little to no mask use or social distancing. Capacity at 50% is close to normal as most places never hit 100%; as the 100% is based on fire marshal capacity.

My brother is probably positive, as he lost all sense of taste and smell, but still doesn't have his results from his test last Thursday morning.

The delay is causing many people to return to work, as they can't wait up to two weeks for results. FL gonna FL.

There is sufficient confusion about the timeline regardless. There are plausible scenario's that could out community spread in china back to September/ late August last year it's just difficult to prove. Depending on underlying assumptions a good indicator is ~2 months to two weeks prior first recorded death for the start of community spread. First infection is anybody's guess, it could hop around in a small population for a while before being noticed or spread outwards.

Get used to the rinse repeat though, finding actual news will become harder as research becomes more specific and harder to fit in the overall picture. News media being news media will just regurgitate the same old baseless claims to make headlines and people will find new magical pills that aught/should/might/could work to prevent infection/decrease time ill/decrease mortality or whatever the desired outcome is.

We're now in the first repetition cycle, except it to become a monthly thing. Meanwhile watch the numbers they report on steadily grow and the life expectancy to slowly decline.

Hundreds Infected In Coronavirus Outbreak At Dole Salad Plant

less than 50%

A significant outbreak of coronavirus is underway at a Dole prepackaged salad plant in Springfield, Ohio. Health authorities first reported an outbreak at the plant back in May.

This past Saturday, officials conducted a mass testing event at the plant, taking over 800 samples. The Clark County Combined Health District says about 220 of those test results have come back positive.

i agree with DUTCHY that the conditions in the meat processing centers helps keep the virus viable and spread. i was never convinced they could clean these factories as fast as the claims. there would b fat particales floating in the air all over the roof joists. it is imbedded into the walls, flooring, etc. and with electrical power running everywhere. to clean for a virus, you'd have to dismantle machinery. do this while wearing a full bio suit and thick gloves.you are not going to deeep clean with a pressure washer.

the practices being used to slow the spread inside workplaces is laughable. putting up plexiglass between customer and cashier is not stopping air flow.it ain't stopping transfere from worker to worker either. they use the same doors, bathroom, break room, halls, etc.this is why i expected infection to get out of hospitals via lower level workers not just nurses and dr's.

that being said the verdict is out on if animals have this. if it can go from ppl to any mammal then explain why it can't go back too?once the virus jumps from 1 species to the next ,we have a major issue. this becomes a full ELE. by the way bats are not birds. so there's that.

Bats are rodents which is a subfamily of mammals. From the reporting we have here in regards to the mink farms the transmission does indeed seem to be two ways but it's hard to prove. If a human brought it in, infected the animals and then another person becomes infected chances are there was contact between the two individual humans.

My biology background is shaky at best but from what I understand it depends a lot on how likely the virus is to bind to the specific ACE2 receptors and this varies between species.

The precautions being taken are more about giving a sense of safety then about actual protection. It's demoralizing to realize that we're now basically 3 months in and if we had taken it serious from the start and taken the full hit economically at once it could have been (near) exterminated by now.
