Just one person sharing a story that has likely happened to many poor people in America already unbeknownst to us.

This will reach insurmountable levels soon if more isnt done to alleviate the situation. My fear is they will just allow these folks to die at home or ppasibly get better. If they die it will be labeled an off-label death as many states have done already. Excess deaths in the US is off the charts as is most nations excluding South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, and a few others.

Some states dont report excess deaths at all, like mine here in Louisiana. You wont know the real numbers here at all unless it gets so bad you cant ignore the elephant in the room any longer. This is so stupid too. Just wear a stinking mask and practice some social skills that are solid until a viable vaccine is available in a few years.

Whoah, is that right? Have you got a link for NZ and Aus excess deaths? Last I heard they were dealing with it really well...

We had 6500 cases today I believe. It’s baffling. I thought we would be on a downward trend. Doesn’t make sense.

Were you having a momentary lapse of script following?

I grew up in a cointel house (if you can call it a house, it was an office apartment. The people I shared it with actually had houses to go back to, while the office was my home since I was essentially homeless without it).

So, I learned, when outside of that office and among the plebs, to only speak what was acceptable (like the sheep do naturally), to stick to the script - repeat things that were deemed culturally bland, go verbatim on items discussed on television by the news media, and live the same bland commercial lifestyle portrayed on television.

But, because I grew up in an office and spent half my day physically in the labs down the street in the medical library, social sciences, and other buildings at Yale - surrounded by people who actually use their brains and were doing things not published in the daily rags for the public consumer mind (and still won't be declassified for a good twenty years according to standard US procedures) - I would occasionally accidentally say something when out among the plebs that reflected that deeper knowledge.

And I'd either get this painful pit in the bottom of my stomach or get all flitty and realize that I might offend or confuse them by adding to their limited stream.

So, I would deeply apologize, blame a headache, say I was feeling dizzy or was confused, or would quickly distract them and re-divert the conversation to literally anything else.

I think what I did on purpose is often simply ingrained in people...it's how you are. So, speaking outside of the bland line, outside of the acceptable social script, makes you feel as if you did something inherently wrong.

Maybe you did.

When I'm in public in my scrubs people look at me differently if I DON'T have my mask on. If I'm in regular clothes without a mask they don't even blink an eye. The psychological impact this is having on people is fascinating to watch.

If you look at the twitterer’s update they got the story from the sister all wrong. It was a covid19 hotline, not a hospital ER, who said that. The sister had not go to a hospital at that time.

Don’t know how much training hotline workers undergo but if someone actually said that, which I have no reason to believe,, they are either untrained or really poorly trained.

I haven’t been out yet. If I was in a store and saw someone with hospital scrubs on, mask or no mask, I would immediately leave.

I am astonished, at this point in time, that hospital personnel are still allowed to wear their exposed hospital clothes out in public.

From personal experience though, wearing a mask in 90 degree temps with 90 percent humidity, it's difficult. Physical exertion and high temps and humidity cause problems. But in general, shopping, etc, no problem.

Conformity bias is what you are describing. It tends to limit expression of ideas that fall outside of the norm. And I was pretty drunk last night but I do tend to think over what I post. I'm not one to spill my mind and later correct myself.

It looks a lot more like a SQL injection or something to me. But conformity bias would involve me taking personal responsibility and saying I messed up. So I will stick to that.

My hunch is - Still not enough of a precaution.

Yep. Those filtration systems work over time. They can't save you from the air the person in the booth next to you just exhaled.

Oh outside.... I agree... it feels awful. But for these fools going grocery shopping or to the movies.... wear a damn mask.
