So... Sweden had a "second first wave" that started around June 1st, 2 weeks ahead of the US "second first wave".

It looks like they are on their way back down now, and like us they didn't really see a surge in deaths from the spike in cases.

These surges in cases seem to be tied in with the beginning of summer weather, when people start doing more outdoor social recreation.

This kinda explains why Georgia, despite being the first US state to open, didn't hit their "second first wave" any sooner than TX-AZ-FLA which opened a couple weeks later, or CA which still hasn't officially opened.

And California is the real wrench in the gears of those who say all these states opened too early... CA took the most cautious approach to opening and they are still just as bad... actually worse per capita the Georgia right now, who opened 2 months ago.

The one common factor among the states that are having problems right now is that they never had a bad outbreak in April.

Georgia wasn't as bad as the New England states, but they were worse than CA-TX-AZ-FL. So their "second first wave" isn't nearly as bad, and set in a couple of weeks later.

News media: They are determined to confuse, obfuscate, and deceive. Keeping us fighting amongst ourselves so we do not turn our attention to the liberal policies that foment dissention and strife.

Combine this with riots and police not showing up, and we are setting the stage for some legit weirdness.

Other than all the above, everything is fine!

'second first wave' is interesting terminology. i've certainly noticed an uptick recently of the term 'second wave' on the news and in the papers.

Look on Amazon for first aid refills. Most of the kits come with 1000 bandaids and very little else. The refill kits have gauze, eye wash, trauma pads, etc. Then I'd add in some QuikClot or Celox and an Israeli bandage which you can use on yourself (see Nurse Amy video).

Obviously, nothing beats medical training (which I do not have), but if you find yourself in an emergency, having some of these items might make a huge difference.

Maybe Halo can comment since she's a very experienced ER nurse.

I had forgotten that Remington was the target (no pun intended) in all of that. I had already edited my comment before I read yours.

It's possible. The buildings in these parts are made to keep the heat out. It didn't start getting warm inside until a week ago and it's still not super hot indoors, despite it being 90 degrees outside a lot of days.

In other words, we have perfect temperatures and humidity levels indoors for preserving bodies in these parts. You won't even really start to smell them until next week.

I respectfully disagree. I think that the US was seeing twice as many new cases per day in April as we are now, which is what led to the massive death numbers.

What we're seeing now isn't good, but it ain't gonna be what it was back then.

The Memorial Day weekend experiment will end up being costly, but it had to be done. Everyone took that one weekend off, and pretended the virus never happened. But like rust, Coronavirus never sleeps as we have found out.

It will take a couple of weeks for this fuckup to pass. Virginia went through this two weeks ago, and is back down to earlier low levels.

My #hopeburger may be tainted with E-Coli, but I'm just gonna have to start cooking them well done from now on.

Well the stats show that the positive test rates in the states seeing spikes now are as bad or nearly as bad now as they ever were during April for USA. So per capita, this is just as bad as April.

Much of the reduced deaths at present is due to a) we've yet to pass the lag time between spike in cases and deaths b) the infections are predominantly among the younger population for now c) Dexamethasone which has been shown to reduce the chance of death is being administered more frequently
