Meh... when I was in my early 20's I used to wash my hands with brake cleaner, look up Methylene Chloride... sure it's way worse than anything on that list.

In my 20's I used Methyl Ethyl Ketone. Hands would turn powder white when they dried.

That's against OSHA regs all day long. But can I get my guys to stop using MEK to clean their hands??? Nope. I swear to the gods, the dumbest thing we ever did as a species was learn to walk upright.

Virus tricks the body into attacking brain; common heartburn drugs linked to coronavirus risk

Remarkably, all 11 patients examined in the present study had strong autoantibodies targeting the brain, which are not normally found in cerebrospinal fluid of healthy people," study coauthor Dr. Christiana Franke of Charité - Universitätsmedizin in Berlin told Reuters. The absence of other explanations for the neurological problems suggests these autoantibodies are to blame, she added.
...

After the 1918 flu virus pandemic, she noted, around 1 million patients had persistent neurological complaints

Your Brain on Covid - Long Term Implications - Synaptic Infection - Neurological Disorders - Universal Permanant Alterations in Those Who “Recovered”

Virus infection causes alterations in expression of synaptic regulatory genes combined with changes in cognitive and emotional behaviors.

Viral infections of the CNS that injure or destroy specific populations of brain cells are frequently associated with behavioral disturbances. These events occur either directly due to virus replication or indirectly as a result of the host immune response against the infectious agent. Neurotropic viruses can also persist in the CNS and, in the absence of cell destruction or inflammation, cause defects in goal-oriented behavior. Therefore, viruses may contribute to human CNS disorders whose etiology remains elusive. The finding of virally mediated impairment in neuronal function in the absence of cell destruction raises the possibility that noncytolytic viruses that persistently infect neurons may contribute to many human CNS disorders whose etiology is unknown.

SARS-CoV-2 can also infect the brain by migrating from the general circulation to the cerebral microcirculation via endothelial cells which express ACE2[5].In a recent case study published by Poyiadji et al.[25], they described an acute hemorrhagic necrotizing encephalopathy that was directly attributed to SARS-CoV-2 infection and the concurrent cytokine storm induced upon infection[25,26]. Beyond isolated cases of overt severe neurological pathologies, 45% of severe cases exhibited neurologic symptoms[3], increasing the likelihood that potential complications arising from severe SARS-CoV-2 infections may have a strong neurologic component that has yet to be described and characterized. Human coronavirus OC43 has been demonstrated to be transmitted in mice both passive diffusion of released viral particles and axonal transport[27].

The current global pandemic outbreak of novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is known for its viral tropism to the lungs, which in severe cases can lead to the fatal respiratory failure of patients who have contracted the disease. SARS-CoV-2 and SARS-CoV viruses have a 70%-80% homology and both enter the body through the same receptor, angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2)[1].

In addition to their genetic homology, the pathology that the two viruses exhibit in the clinic are highly similar[2]. In a recent report from Wuhan, China, Mao and colleagues showed that in addition to respiratory symptoms including pneumonia and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), out of 214 hospitalized COVID-19 patients 78 (36.4%) showed neurological manifestations such as cerebrovascular diseases (5.7%), impaired consciousness (14.8%), and skeletal muscle injury (19.3%)[3]. Six percent of COVID-19 patients have been reported to show symptoms of stroke and 15% were reported to show encephalopathy[4]. A number of symptoms such as dizziness, headache, loss of taste and smell, impaired consciousness, seizures, and nerve pain suggest a neurological connection to this viral infection.

My nephew in Houston 37yr old, got it from his job at the hospital. He quarantined for 35 days. Never got any respiratory symptoms, but got the fever and all over horrible feeling and exhaustion. He started to feel better after 10 days but continues to test positive every week. He was just hospitalized because he was falling when walking and having seizures. I am so worried for him right now. Labs came back good and CT is clear, we are waiting on EEG and MRI to come back.

COVID is gonna COVID, unless you're in a HARD lockdown. My theory that the virus will burn through a certain vulnerable percents of the population and then decline has still not been proven wrong.
 Quoting: R. Wordsworth

Yes it has. A number of countries were infected earlier than the USA and have had several thousand cases but nowhere near as high infecteds and deaths (per capita) as the USA has. Think of Germany, South Korea, Japan, New Zealand, China, Vietnam. All these countries had better levels of preparation and their governments reacted stronger to stopping the spread of the virus. These countries still have a relatively small number of new cases each day now but they will probably never have a large spread or require a hard lockdown because their governments react effectively to putting out any covid fires.

I feel confident enough that Texas has peaked, I'll lay out my "Dunce Cap" wager once more.

If Texas hospitalization numbers aren't at least 500 lower 1 week from today than what they are now, I'll put a dunce cap on my avatar for a month.

 Quoting: R. Wordsworth

Biting on that stale hopeburger hard. I think you're wrong Wordsie. Red states will play the hide the numbers game until then ambulances will be up and down the street, coroner's picking up bodies in the neighborhood, and lastly death certs will say pneumonia deaths in the middle of the summer.

At what point do you think they would keep on this decietful playbook going?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78576165

Sweden had about the same mitigation efforts in place as Texas does now, going all the way back to the beginning of the pandemic. They peaked, and eventually came down

COVID is gonna COVID, unless you're in a HARD lockdown. My theory that the virus will burn through a certain vulnerable percents of the population and then decline has still not been proven wrong.

Where I was wrong was assuming that outside of New England, this had already happened. EVERYONE thought that was the case in California before this surge... there was endless articles about how COVID was in California in November or December, and with that exposure they didn't have a bad outbreak.

In reality, they just shut down before their outbreak took off. The second they cracked the door open, COVID kicked it in and went berzerker.
 Quoting: R. Wordsworth

You're relying on Texans to be responsible and compliant of social distancing and mask wearing people.

The opposite is happening. Factor socio economic disparity between Sweden and Texas. They have health coverage. Texans well...we know what our country is about.

Factor health disparity. We all know American diet especially Texas isn't the healthiest. There will be many deaths. There will be many sick and will need hospitalizations.

I can go on and on about the differences. Sweden and Texas are apples and oranges.
You can't even use the mitigation theory tactic to compare the two.

Numbers in this situation are doctored and unreliable. Starch up the dunce cap so it will stand on your head high and tall :)

Texas hospitalizations dropped by about 100... the first daily drop since June 10th.

New cases were technically a record, but only by a a small amount... and we know those numbers show us the state of things a week or more ago.

This is the first concrete evidence Texas has peaked, I suppose the question now is how long the decline will take.

 Quoting: R. Wordsworth

I don't believe for one second Texas, or any other state, has "peaked." Eventually, you just max out your testing capacity, at which point the numbers flatline, mimicking a "peak."

Sorry, Wordsie, I know you still hold out hope for a happy ending, but this is "The Titanic" we're living, not "The Love Boat."

Hospitals get testing priority, I highly doubt that they are lacking on testing of admitted persons with COVID symptoms. Perhaps Halo could chime in on this.

Hospitalization numbers in Texas have been essentially flat for 5 days, that's not an anomoly that's a trend. Positivity rate has been flat for about the same time period.

I feel confident enough that Texas has peaked, I'll lay out my "Dunce Cap" wager once more.

Y'know, I'm now starting to wonder if the whole resistance to following OSHA regs at my dumbployer is part of this whole "Muh Freedumb!" mindset that seems to be permeating American society. I mean, I don't really see a difference now that I'm thinking about it:

The government says, "You need to wear eye protection when grinding, sanding, drilling, or performing any other work where particles might fly into your eye and damage it." Dumbployees say, "Fuck that! I'll do what I want!"

The government says, "You need to stay home to prevent the spread of a deadly virus, and if you absolutely must go out, you need to wear a mask so you don't get sick and die." Dumbsheep say, "Fuck that! I'll do what I want!"

There's no difference. I've been fighting the "Muh Freedumb!" movement since long before the virus; I just didn't know it.
 Quoting: Riff-Raff

The difference is, if I don't wear eye protection when grinding and the disk breaks and takes out both my peepers... that's only a problem for me.

Yes... I know the argument that will be made, oh think about your family and the societal impact blah blah blah... but PPE usage when it comes down to it should be my business, because it's protecting ME and doesn't effect anyone else.

Masks on the other hand are just the opposite... they do little to protect the person wearing it, they are intended to protect others.

I have no problem with people bypassing regulations when it comes to matters of their own protections, but not wearing a mask is like operating a crane and not danger taping off below it... it's a matter of protection of others which one has no right to bypass.
 Quoting: R. Wordsworth

Except there are plenty of other OSHA regs that, if not followed, can result in an innocent person getting hurt or dying long after the regulation is broken. OSHA regs are also there to prevent corporations from exposing workers to dangerous conditions so they can maximize their profits, something which I have witnessed my company do time after time after time, despite my attempts to stop it. It's like bailing the Pacific Ocean with a teaspoon.

Could there have been errors in synthesizing the ingredients? Has Chicom quality fallen off a cliff? Is it possible they would put something harmful in meds?

BTW, if I was younger, I would be seeking venture capital for a US based organic chemistry company. Vitamins, minerals, meds, etc. are a wonderful, growing market.

Given the situation in Bengaluru, maybe they should boost the vit-D too?

Immunity-boosting Vitamin C tablets in short supply, say Bengaluru chemists

Lockdown measures helped reduce the number of COVID-19 cases around the world, study finds

Implementation of any physical distancing measure was associated with an overall 13% average reduction in COVID-19 incidence, the study found.

In combination, restrictions on mass gatherings and closures of schools and workplaces appeared to play a significant role in the reduction of COVID-19 cases. But shutting down public transit when the other measures were in place wasn't associated with an additional decline in COVID-19 cases, likely because fewer people were using public transportation, according to the authors.

 Quoting: Riff-Raff

Oh absolutely, and I fully support all regulations that protect workers from doing something they don't believe is safe, or protect workers from external hazards.

Where I draw the line is the parts of the regulations that micromanage how workers do their job, in regards to things that are only a threat to themselves and not the safety of other workers.

This isn't an OSHA rule, but probably will be one day... one of my clients mandated that all employees must wear gloves at all times, no matter what they're doing... even if they aren't doing any work, or even if gloves are wildly inappropriate for the task at hand such as installing a tiny set screw in a piece of sensitive equipment.

This rule has led to a lot of guys having problems with rashes on their hands and infections, as well as dropped tools nuts and bolts... creating another hazard. They're trading potential injuries for actual injuries.

There's more and more idiotic rules like that coming down the pipes, industrial environments got pretty safe about 10 years ago... but all those OSHA guys didn't pack up and go home.

All the easy stuff has been resolved, so now they're coming up with dumbass rules to justify their existance which more and more I've seen creating as many hazards as they resolve.

Some of these safety protocols have become so onerous and the consequences of a devation so severe, it's actually distracting people from safely doing their job because they're worried more about looking safe than being safe.

I have seen quite an uptick in seizure 911 calls on the scanner in Flint, MI.

I hope he will be ok. This virus sucks.

Hello! My daughter tested positive three weeks ago with no symptoms except for a stuffy nose- the only reason she even was tested is because she was exposed at a party. So, my husband and I thought we should get tested just in case (we were around her once but just for a sec-she is in college/does not live with us)and we were negative. We then had an antibody test and both of us showed antibodies...but we have not been sick recently- How can that be possible? We are mid-40s so I think we would show symptoms right? The only time we were sick in the last year was last September- it just seems impossible!!

 Quoting: Riff-Raff

Hospitals get testing priority, I highly doubt that they are lacking on testing of admitted persons with COVID symptoms. Perhaps Halo could chime in on this.

Hospitalization numbers in Texas have been essentially flat for 5 days, that's not an anomoly that's a trend. Positivity rate has been flat for about the same time period.

I feel confident enough that Texas has peaked, I'll lay out my "Dunce Cap" wager once more.

If Texas hospitalization numbers aren't at least 500 lower 1 week from today than what they are now, I'll put a dunce cap on my avatar for a month.

We do not learn from history because our studies are brief and prejudiced. In a surprising manner, 250 years emerges as the average length of national greatness. This average has not varied for 3,000years. The stages of the rise and fall of great nations seem to be:
The Age of Pioneers , The Age of Conquests ,The Age of Commerce ,The Age of Affluence ,The Age of Intellect ,The Age of Decadence.
Decadence is marked by: Defensiveness, Pessimism, Materialism,Frivolity An influx of foreigners The Welfare State A weakening of religion. Decadence is due to: Too long a period of wealth and power, Selfishness Love of money ,The loss of a sense of duty.
The life histories of great states are amazingly similar, and are due to internal factors. Their falls are diverse, because they are largely the result of external causes. - Sir John Glubb The Fate of Empires

Have you watched this? Budesonide is a safe med used for 20 years, used to prevent asthma attacks, inexpensive. You could call this doctor if yours wont consider nebulized steroid treatment ...I read his asst does facetime consults. He just sent his paper to Ted Cruz and this week, to the WH.

BTW I shared this today with a friend who is an MD. Small group practice. She had not heard of this but thought it looked good. Said the hospital is treating patients with inhaled steroids. She is going to research this treatment and prob buy a home nebulizer.

Thank you! I'll check it out. I actually have left over budesonide from my kid. May not be expired.

I'll see.about renting a camper too. And yes, I know to talk to my Dr, in process. :)
