Oh absolutely, and I fully support all regulations that protect workers from doing something they don't believe is safe, or protect workers from external hazards.

Where I draw the line is the parts of the regulations that micromanage how workers do their job, in regards to things that are only a threat to themselves and not the safety of other workers.

This isn't an OSHA rule, but probably will be one day... one of my clients mandated that all employees must wear gloves at all times, no matter what they're doing... even if they aren't doing any work, or even if gloves are wildly inappropriate for the task at hand such as installing a tiny set screw in a piece of sensitive equipment.

This rule has led to a lot of guys having problems with rashes on their hands and infections, as well as dropped tools nuts and bolts... creating another hazard. They're trading potential injuries for actual injuries.

There's more and more idiotic rules like that coming down the pipes, industrial environments got pretty safe about 10 years ago... but all those OSHA guys didn't pack up and go home.

All the easy stuff has been resolved, so now they're coming up with dumbass rules to justify their existance which more and more I've seen creating as many hazards as they resolve.

Some of these safety protocols have become so onerous and the consequences of a devation so severe, it's actually distracting people from safely doing their job because they're worried more about looking safe than being safe.

Back when the outbreak was in full swing here in MA one of Mini's friends had the 2nd kind of rash listed. Was covered on her back and stomach. Mini asked her if she was going to get test,she said no, that she was terrified of the swab going up her nose. A few days later I see the girl driving around with a car full of girls.I asked mini is she running around still covered in that rash. Mini said yeah but she got tested and it was negative. Yeah right, didn't believe that for a second. Teenagers will infect us all if they send them back to school.

Your client could actually be violating OSHA with that glove rule, but I'd have to research it. And I agree that OSHA's regs can sometimes go way overboard and violate the KISS principle on a regular basis. I try to strike a happy medium as best I can. But nobody here is interested in a safety culture of any kind. I fight the execs to get safety policies in place so we're OSHA compliant. I fight the employees to actually abide by those policies. Then I fight the execs again on enforcing those policies.

And this whole COVID thing has truly opened my eyes about my employer. They don't give a damn about any of the worker bees.

So as of this past Monday, I gave up. I come into the office. I sit in my office with the door closed. I document the shit out of things. I look for a new job. And I answer work-related questions as they come to me. But I am finished trying to be proactive.

Yeah there's some posts about science, covid and chess awhile back in the thread. Nothingburger guy wasn't as beloved as Sir Boom Boom (from the old Syria thread) and frankly it just got boring lol. Especially when I don't actually believe it's a nothingburger. Someone had to carry the banner of the nothingburgers. Though admittedly I didn't think it was much of anything until late February or so



It's definitely real and not a hoax. Can confirm with my doctor friend. As for the science behind it I'm not going to comment much. I'm a chemist and if had to pick I prefer physics to biology/virology etc. Not much good for making intelligent comments about viruses. I guess that's part of the reason the nothingburger persona was born LOL
