At times like this, I like to defer to actual verifiable case studies... preferably ones that I was a part of.

I used a porta-shitter with three COVID-positive people for 2 days. 2 other employees of mine did the same. The infected people were part of a turbine rebuild crew from a major power generation equipment manufacturer. Hnry might know them.

Not to be graphic, but I took at least 3 shits in that timespan and probably twice as many leaks. On two of those occasions, an infected person had used that outhouse just before me.

Enough time has passed, that I can say none of us were infected.

Everybody was wearing a mask when they used the shitter.

So... take that for what you will. But it's a data point.

I do agree to a certain extent but with temps in the high 90s and crazy humdity for the past couple weeks, many of us Texans limit our time outdoors unless necessary.

If they decrease the chance of getting infected, does that not mean, by definition, that they decrease the eventual spread by the wearer? Meaning isn't it better to not get infected, so you do not risk infecting others?

Considering the resistance to simply wearing a mask can you imagine the backlash if they asked everyone to also wear goggles and ear coverings? I agree in principle that eye-goggles and ear coverings decrease risk but masks seem to be the path of least discomfort to keep R below 1 so the virus *should* burn itself out in theory. I guess I don't really understand what point you are trying to make?

I've straight up had close contacts with COVID positive people, and although I certainly acknowledge that infection through the eyes and ears is possible, it's gotta be fucking really rare.

Once again, I'll default to Halo's opinion on this one because she's had more contact with positive cases than probably all of us combined.

But I really think that respiratory droplet transmission via extended close contacts is the primary route of infection for most people.

Sure, it's airborne... fuck we knew that since Wuhan. But it's a much less likely route of transmission.

There's a lot of elderly people scared to death of going to the hospital, my parents included.

I don't know man, I used a 20 square foot porta-shitter 10 seconds after a COVID positive guy shit out a whole night full of hot wings and IPA filled debauchery.

But 3 weeks later I'm fine, I can still smell those hot wings now... even after processing. But I didn't get infected.

Also of note, none of the 20 or so guys who worked at the facility who had close contacts with the positive cases weren't infected either.

It's so weird man, COVID seems to be super contagious but also not all at the same time.

I know this is a super small case study, but I'm just relaying the info that I can supply first hand.

I shared a bathroom with 3 COVID positive dudes and was fine, and my employee who was fucking a COVID positive chick didn't end up catching it.

My brothers wife is immunocompromised. He was around her until the day he woke up with a fever, isolated in a different bedroom as much as he could, and she never caught it. Neither did his daughter. So????

I have never bought the theory that smelling the fart of someone who is positive is going to give you Covid. How many studies have been done on that? Now, if you touch their crap, I would buy that. But not just from the sniffing of methane.

If you got splash up on you from that guy, I could see it as a possibility.

And transmission through the eyes, sure, but the main thing is respiration.

Masks are a mitigation effort. And people need to add some extra defenses to their masks, too, but it sure would help if they just wore a freaking face covering indoors.

I worried about that a lot through the end of May or so, but I got really tired of shitting in the woods or in the bed of my truck.

After a while, I started to view coming down with COVID as better than the embarrassment of shitting in a 5gal bucket in the back of a 6 foot bed pickup with a cap.

One thing we're forgetting is that if this really is a bioweapon, which I've held my tongue on because I just don't know, there could be very specific genetic markers this thing either targets, or avoids.
