The problem is the easy targets for covid-19 extends to any people who have pre-existing medical conditions. In the US alone that number is the many millions. As research has showed the typical person who dies from this virus is not someone who is on the verge of death, but instead people who were expected to have another 10-15 years of life to live.

The suggestion that there is an initial surge that then falls away because there is no longer any 'low hanging fruit' is hogwash. The people of Brazil know it. Cases and deaths have remained constantly high ever since they entered the pandemic.

In any country where there are no mitigation efforts the many millions of people with the pre-existing medical conditions are always going to be gambling with their life. What's worse, those who already had the virus before and luckily survived will still be at risk as scientists have said that long term immunity is unlikely.

Brazil's testing is so inadequate, we don't know what their curve really looks like.

They may very well have started out at 100k cases per day or more and have worked their way down.

Also, you're right people with pre-existing conditions are more vulnerable for death, and probably infection also.

But what I'm talking about is the portion of the population that can't get infected at all.

One of my employee's live-in girlfriend got COVID, and he didn't. He continued to live with her in a tiny apartment for 2 weeks while they were both in quarantine 24/7 and he did not catch it.

I've since heard of another similar story from a friend about a husband and wife where he got it and she didn't, same deal they isolated together in the same house.

There's a significant portion of the population that's immune. I don't know if it's 10%, or 50%, or if it's based on certain genetic heritage. But my personal observations and quite a few news articles suggest this is the case.

But the people with pre-existing conditions are likely not going out to bars... what's triggering this spread right now is young idiots.

Still not something we should base policy on. For now it's best to go with the assumption that just letting it rip will have dramatic effects rather then letting people gamble under the assumption that perhaps there is something that they might have that protects them. Especially since we don't understand where any such potential immunity may come from nor able to test for it combined with a demonstrable lack of knowledge of long-term effects of infection. Just ask Owl if "assumed recovered" is a category you want to be in.

I've been trying to come up with a regimen of supplements and medications to have on hand to try to mitigate or perhaps a better word might be ameliorate symptoms if I were exposed and started being symptomatic. Im considering asking my doctor for a steroid prescription, prednisone as it has helped in the past with pneumonia, difference of night and within 24 hours so I trust it's efficacy.

I acually believe it healed long standing myalgic inflammation stemming from a bad car accident years earlier. It was the weirdest thing, all these hot spots like an internal heat lamp in certain spots for 3 days and have not had a reoccurrence of what people call fake pain since that first course. I am also looking at laying in a supply of antibiotics just in case. I'm limited as I'm allergic to penicillin so maybe zithromycin and gentamicin.

I may also ask about the inhalable steroid that the doctor in TX seems to have had success with possibly keeping people from winding up in the ICU. I'll probably ask for an antiviral also. All these would only come into play if I were to get sick of course. A daily baby aspirin is all I take, thank God no other medications so far, in decent if not excellent health so far.

The more difficult part is coming up with good alternative support things like vitamins and supplements. The D is easy living in South Florida, I drink a vegetarian protein shake with pre and probiotics and vitamins and eat mostly Mediterranean style with some German foods since I'm from Germany originally but had the good fortune of growing up in Italy before landing in the US.

I wish there were more holistic doctors that practice integrative medicine here. My wish is to wake up in the not too distant future knowing that there are if not a cure but definite working treatments and that this virus becomes more like another strain of the flu at worst or just loses so much potency it'll be just a other cold virus or best disappears, period.

I'm not usually the one to outright call conspiracy, but it sounds like they're trying to make sure every country gets hit equally at the same rate and the same time.
