That's where it's going with every school. Some are just not ready to admit it yet. The local school district where I am had a masks-optional plan a week ago. Then, last Friday, they went to masks mandatory. By the time school is supposed to start, they will have gone online-only. They're fooling themselves if they think they can put 20 kids in classrooms and not have outbreaks immediately.

It's Monday. There's always a lag on Monday.

More likely it's going to be very effective going off the trials and used with a booster vaccine.

Here in the southern MoZarks, they are just going to have school like always and act as if there is no reason to be concerned.

That only affirms my choice of language... We have clearly escalated well beyond a shitshow and even though the situation is FUBAR the entirety of it constitute's a clusterfuck.

Exactly. I have a constant refrain of, "It didn't have to be this way" running through my mind.

This could have all been contained and very nearly negated if only people were given actual information and not so completely stupid.

Had that happened, we would have still had serious economic issues due to China falling down, but it wouldn't have been insurmountable. Simple measures like wear a mask indoors in public, keep separation from people not in your immediate family, quit acting like everything is normal for about a month and stay the f*** at home for that length of time, and boom. Controlled and not a world destroyer.

But no.

Now....Well, we're all screwed.

Anything is possible. Some of the smartest people on the planet have set aside everything else to work on this bug. So maybe someone has come up with something. Problem is, they still need to complete the testing and get it approved for mass distribution. Finally, there is no way of knowing long-term side-effects of what they're working on because their trial patients have only had it in their system for a few weeks at best? Maybe a couple of months? I'd want to read more about the final product and the chances of something unforeseen popping up a few years from now. Also, does it work against all six major strains? I'm assuming so, but they did not specify in the article.

So, I think the order of the day is pretty much the same as it always has been, both before and after the pandemic: Always hope for the best, but always prepare for the worst.

I like this research... much more fun :) I was feeling like high school all over again... I had to read a JAMA paper, every other day , and summarize it, in less than an hour, plus still listen to my English teacher lecture....yah.... she didn’t like me. I enjoyed the C that the principal forced her to give me because I refused to write in that ignorant three point essay format. And she failed every weekly essay. Good times.
