I like to compare dead vs cured. Dead vs currently infected means nothing. Using the completed numbers it’s like a 30%!dead rate. We have no idea how many mild cases there are. Of the seriosly sick, at least 30% die.

Last year at the end of April my wife and I flew to Singapore for a 2 week SE Asia holiday. We stayed at the Hard Rock @ Sentosa. We were both impressed with the cleanliness of the place and that you always saw attendants in the toilets. Gardeners/maintenance people would constantly spray outside, cleaners would walk around with sprays and wipes, always going over door handles and surfaces people would come in contact with. The locals we met are very proud of their country and would happily explain how aware they are of preventing a bird flu. One taxi driver could not stop boasting about his country and explained to us the creation of a huge underground reservoir that would help them be self sufficient in fresh water supply. They rely heavily on Malaysia. After watching their Presidents address on Covid-19 the other day, it hit home big time. This country has actively prepped for this for years and years.
We took a 3 day cruise to Malaysia and Indonesia. Did not disembark at either place. Again, on the ship, witnessed non stop cleaning similar to described above. Another poster on this thread articulated cruise ship norovirus protocols. This bug has a big set of balls.

In my own factory 50% of workers have quit or are not expected to return already. Roads are deserted and we are the only ones "open" atm.

Yeah people here long enough will know what I mean for sure. I've been here since we were all stuck looking at the cams on the underwater drills all day in the Gulf. What I'm seeing is a bunch of people in the Asian world saying that the West is responsible for this and another group in the West speculating that China is to blame for releasing this intentionally or by accident, and neither side realizing that nobody on either side will ever know the truth.

The version of the truth they want us to hear and believe will be given by the people in the shadows holding the candle at the back of the puppet show, delivered by the puppets. And we're going to be fighting over our "truths" and be left picking up the pieces after. While they scurry away to safety with our treasure.

The test kits response would be very speculative. So it is possible China does have better working kits simply by having the live virus isolated. China gave the sequence of the virus out for it to be synthesized. Any work done on the test would have been based off the rna sequence given by China which was first recreated by Australia.

So that question in The Who press conference was very important and revealing... Australia has been able to isolate the live virus. Then with I believe 24 hours or so the US CDC says there are problems with the first test kits showing indeterminate.

The pcr test by design is looking for a specific rna/ DNA sequence or sequences. The tests are designed to be an amplifier and pick up trace amounts off dna/rna that are statistically significant. To simplify Your basically Trying to find specific needles in the haystack based on metal compesition and interpreting the magnetic residence of that alloy. (Your basically targeting certain compositions of an ally in a huge sample). In tests like that you cannot use one specific piece of the rna you need multiple pieces. Basically you can put it on statistics strong signal on 99.9% sure strong signal on the second 99% sure weak signal on the third then it is indeterminate. Your shown two positives and one maybe...

When you get a maybe you get a undetermined because what you are looking for is there or appears to be their but it does not meet the test criteria of confirmation of statistical significance of the entire test. PCR tests are designed to confirm and will always error of non confirmation when there is not enough signal. Hence indeterminate.

So if the rna sequence used to synthesize the virus and if the synthesized virus was used to design the specific rna sequences to look for were not correct then you would expect multiple indeterminate... because your seeing multiple fingerprints of the strands but not all of them.

What I am speculating on that we might have had the wrong sequences being targeted. Why a live virus is important.

Now no the pcr test is designed for specific viruses it’s not a universal test and really does require special lab equipment. Not many stand alone facilities have them, maybe research hospitals, but they are generally sent off to labs for processing... because of the equipment and specialization of running the test.

Remember these tests are amplifications looking for minute amounts there is a level of tolerance involved and a level used to confirm. Example you may have the virus but the count is low... then it would end up as noise... but as the viral count grows the test will pict up on those signals.

That is why you see negative tests in a row then randomly a positive. It’s when it becomes detectable with statistical confidence that it is confirmed. Indeterminate would be picking up positive signals but not at proper confidence.

So I do not blame the cdc or believe the tests were necessarily bad by returning indeterminate... for that to happen what they were looking for was likely not accurate and not the test.... but indeterminate also says at least part of what they were looking for was identified.

I know long response just trying to explain in a simplified manner how pcr tests work.

So to answer the others (sorry if I did above, I am on a tablet right now)
China could possibly have an accurate test or they could not. I can’t answer that with certainty.

I believe most of the world will have an accurate and more refined test shortly. (Since we are now getting to the point we can isolate live viruses)

Regular flu would 100% not cause a pcr test to show positive. Remember the pcr is designed for specific rna or dna of a specific virus... not symptom based or observation based but rna or dna sequencing based.

Hope that helps. I am not an expert on all of this but I know enough to understand how they work.

As far as proof to what I have said above google pcr tests for hiv. It is a really good example and is a more commonly used and more refined pcr test. The above is trying to put how it works in a general digestible level (with the needles in haystacks etc...)

Follow up note:
Here is one thing that appears to be very difficult about detecting this virus using PCR it appears to show up in different fluids at different times by case almost arbitrary by case. Show up in throat cultures but not blood or intestines and no other.. in saliva without blood etc. just interesting (ex HIV PCR is blood test)

I'm here in South GA (US) and my aunt who had "normal flu" sent us a family text that she tested positive and none of the rest of our local family should expect to come to her home for a while. She's on Tamilflu... And rest I suppose.

I work remotely and have been keeping up with GLP. Husband works for a software company in FL and I keep saying "don't bring that sh*t home from your office!"

We live in an area where every home has firearms, but that won't help you kick this.

We have enough in home to sustain is for several weeks, but no real preps behind that. Wishing we had more space for preps at the moment.

Currently wondering how people in our situation...in small towns/cities can fair with something like this threat. We tend to take care of eachother here, but what happens when many of us can't take care of one another if things turn nasty in rural-ish US?

Just months ago, my job required that I travel extensively throughout the US. I'm already a bit of a germaphobe and presently SO GLAD to not be in airports constantly. Can't stand being in public with all this going on.

I recall mega-dosing vitC during other flus in college and we're doing that now... Though I don't even know if it helped in the past. We didn't get sick, but many others didn't either without trying alternative interventions.

If this does get big in the states, I'm sure there are people like me--not prepped per se, but also not those who know nothing--who really won't know what to do.

This whole situation will suck for a while at least until we get some true scientific backup on WTF is actually going on.
