BTW, garden is coming along.
Planted about 100 tomatoes in the old chicken yard yesterday. However, there is too much shade. If I start trimming or felling trees....well, The Queen would scalp me for the damage done to that garden.
Front yard has poor soil, solid grass turf, and tons of tree roots. Cannot roto till using my tractor because roots would break the shear pins on the tines of the tiller.
So, I spent today with the backhoe digging up the area that I will later plant. I did over 1000 square feet this afternoon to a depth of about 16".
So, backhoe, remove roots, plow, remove more roots, till in soil amendments and fertilizer, water heavily, cover with a tarp for 2-3 weeks to kill all of the grass.
After that I will plant low demand veggies such a sunflowers.
We still have over 5 more months before frost here. Then, I will plant winter veggies on the same land.
In all, I will add about 6,000 square feet to the garden in front.
