Everyone is fed, people are generally safe, and the weather is nice. Yes, you can't get a slice, and the elevator is terrifying, and all the awesome reasons fo live if NYC are gone, while most of the shitty things you have to put up with are still there.
Still, there are probably 5 billion or so people around the world that would give their left nut to pick up whatever life they have and be in NYC.
We are a long, long, long way from the depths of human despair. Not even in the same galaxy. In fact, you are 100x closer to the moment of highest human joy than you are the deepest depths of human despair.
I'm not saying its easy, and for GenX, its probably the most traumatic thing we have shared as a generation, but it still barely registers on the Richter scale of human misery.
