It's not that bad. Even in NYC. Everyone is fed, people are generally safe, and the weather is nice. Still, there are probably 5 billion or so people around the world that would give their left nut to pick up whatever life they have and be in NYC. We are a long, long, long way from the depths of human despair. Not even in the same galaxy. In fact, you are 100x closer to the moment of highest human joy than you are the deepest depths of human despair. I'm not saying its easy, and for GenX, its probably the most traumatic thing we have shared as a generation, but it still barely registers on the Richter scale of human misery. You are bringing up things to make a point where there should not be. And you are ignoring that it is possible for this virus to end civilization as we know it.
