I had just walked out the building. 50 students waiting to cross at the intersection. A few homeless mixed in.

It is super important to listen to those subtle clues that our brains, souls, God, the universe, angels, etc. offer in the moment. Little things make a big difference.

Yes, but extremely hard to quantify and if people are aware they have a influence that changes their behaviour because they try to predict other humans -- que endless loop. It's one of the basic problems with social sciences. It's very hard to make humans either purely a independent or dependent variable.

Government aught to be a stabilizing factor by trying to set a common goal and being a trustworthy source of information, which has failed across the board. Earlier this week the scientific advisory board here said there was no scientific basis for mandating masks and now two of the bigger cities are mandating masks in the more populated areas as of next week, clusterfuckery.

CDC had been gathering data from hospitals on the availability of beds, ventilators, PPE, etc since the pandemic began.

In mid-July, hospitals were given 2 days to switch how they report. They were told the new HHS system would be worth it.

Under the old system @CDCgov, the public data estimates on hospital capacity were updated 3x a week.

Trump admin argued this was too slow. It's important information -- public health officials rely on the estimates to see if hospitals are at risk of being overwhelmed.

Initially, @HHSGov claimed they would update this data multiple times a day.

Then they quietly changed the website to "daily."

But much of the data hasn't been updated in OVER A WEEK.

And now, an HHS spokesperson tells me that it will now be updated weekly.

@SpoxHHS told @NPR when the change was made that @CDCgov data wasn't getting data from enough hospitals - only 85% - and that "the President's COVID response requires 100 percent to report."

To get more compliance, @HHSGov made clear that failing to report data to the new system might affect how much remdesivir - one of the few drugs that's shown promise in treating severe COVID-19 cases - a state gets.

Still, two weeks in, 100% of facilities are not reporting.

Instead, 92% of facilities are marked as reporting.

But that's not the whole story.

A hospital counts as "reporting" if it submits just one item
in the past seven days.

And rehab and VA hospitals, which were in the CDC system, are being left out.

Asked about this, HHS said:

"These hospitals are not on our list of priority hospitals that we are seeking daily information from because they treat very few, if any COVID-19 patients."

Adding: "The consistency is improving, and we are proud of the progress that has been made."

Then there are the anomalies.

Take Arizona. Under the old system, in data collected by CDC, 3,205 #COVID patients in AZ occupied 24% of inpatient hospital beds.

After the switch, HHS showed 82 FEWER #COVID patients hospitalized, but the bed occupancy rate had jumped to 42%.

It's unclear how fewer patients in Arizona could be occupying more of the state's hospital beds.

There are more anomalies, including Georgia and New Mexico.

In Colorado, July 30 hospitalization data from HHS showed 491 patients, but the state's daily dashboard showed 341.

And Rhode Island shows over 100% of ICU beds filled.

IN CONCLUSION:

The new system made hospitals scramble to adapt, and the data is neither faster than the CDC system nor 100% complete.

PLUS there are strange anomalies in the data.
These data are important. People's lives depend on its accuracy.

While some hospital assns and states have had "difficulty," HHS has worked to resolve errors, and they "are pleased with the progress we have made during this transition and the actionable data it is providing," a spokesperson told @NPR.

there are so many parts to the great engine it is hard to say how slow it can function before total fail. grid- water and power and gasoline. movement of ships and trucks.retail shops with cashiers. money to keep it moving.packaging<yeah that dreaded word again i have yelled many times>.

we have seen hiccups at the bottom and shipping ends. farmers had no where to send product and lost $$. shipping from everywhere is down. the # of parts to put a loaf of bread on the store shelf is astounding.

at some point the system has to go KamiKazi.keep the sheep working even thou they get sick or the ENTIRE thing stops. then the govern loses control. if the ppl wake up to the truth FEAR happens. this is why u see a lot of double talk from the govern including the CDC. cause confusion keep ppl from panic and from seeing the truth.

IF/WHEN the huge economic engine with supply on demand stops, u have 3 days to total collapse and Apocalypse. restarting it is impossable.

Because this is a make or break this November .... and the ones on the intelligence committee also know that social stability is at risk.

I don't consider postal workers, UPS and Fedex employees, the folks who staff the Costco I visit, my pharmacist, hospital workers, grocery store workers, etc., etc., etc., to be "sheep" as you describe them.

That's true, but this is the break they do all of their re-election politicing. Not a word, I know. This election season is odd. Not sure if they all know there won't be one or what is really going on. There are NO signs here for any of the elections. Not even the locals.
