And parents have the right to say one. And if they can’t afford the copay....which there shouldn’t be in most plans for a shot visit.... there is this amazing thing called The State or County Health Departments..... again communication skills are ESSENTIAL.

The MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine is what almost ended measles outbreaks in the US.

If a pregnant woman caught measles during the first trimester of her pregnancy it was pretty common that the child was going to be born with a serious hearing impairment. Without wanting to sound insensitive, those children were referred to in the educational system as "rubella babies".

Any school system of even moderate size had classes for hearing impaired students. Most states had a "School for the Deaf". A lot of universities and colleges had, within their education departments, curricula for "teachers of the hearing impaired", the slang for which was "deaf ed."

Most of those programs? Gone.

Why? The vaccine. Simple as that.

Next stop? Go back to the Salk vaccine for polio. Followed by the oral Sabin vaccine.

Next stop? Tuberculosis vaccine.

Next stop? Diptheria, Pertussis, and Typhoid. The DPT vaccine.

Iowa isn’t much better. But the doctors that I know don’t give more than 2 shots at a time. And they don’t charge an office visit for the cuteness to just come in for another shot or two.
