Farm truck: 93 Dodge Ram 1500 5.3 stick shift 4x4.

Fuel pump went out, tested it and it was bad. Replaced with new pump. Put back in tank and it is not getting consistent power. It gets power to prime the pump and nothing after. I switched out all of the relays and it still doesn't do anything.

Re: Mechanic ON Duty! Ask me a question!
Hi Op. Thanks for doing this.
I have a 2011 Ford Edge. "Charge" light coming on every now and then. I have started it up then removed the neg battery terminal to see if it would continue to run, it does at 1k rpm or less. If over 1k rpm it dies. When driving with everything on: wipers, lights, aircon, radio etc. It drains battery. However, sometimes with everything on I see charging happening.

So logically I am thinking alternator needs to be replaced, battery is new. Is there some kind of controller that tells the alternator to kick in etc? Don't want to replace alternator if there is some alternator control device that may be the cause. Your thoughts?

Thanks a bunch.

My brother is a master certified tech too in drivability. He can't help either.

My 4 wheel drive works, my locking differential works, anti locks, skid control, everything ok.

But service stabilitrack is constantly on...any ideas I haven't already seen or tried from youtube or the web?

Probably has a half melted terminal somewhere. Get under the passenger side dash and give the connectors for the blower motor and resistor a wiggle.
 Quoting: CosmicFire

I've replaced the passenger side wire harness and blower motor. And found the wiring schematic and wire brushed all grounds, then added washers for better ground contact. All paint removed and contact surfaces cleaned with alcohol.

Is the steering wheel centered? Any modules replaced or programmed lately?

Dodges will post a similar message if the ORC module is flashed as it corrupts the data in the ABS module, requiring it to be reinitialized.

I'm able to fix most of my issues just by google and YouTube . Case in point, my 2001 ML320 was sputtering and my fuel mileage went to shit. It turned out to be the MAS (mass airflow sensor) . Guy on youtube said to remove it (5min) and spray it down with special cleaner available at most auto part stores ($9), fixed the issue. That piece of shit mechanic that quoted me $205 to fix it can eat DICK. I hope Google and YouTube puts all those thieves out of work.

The regulator is built in to the alternator but gets direction from the PCM. If you pull it off they can test it at the parts store. But it's a safe bet the alternator is bad.

You can try tapping it with a hammer or bar and if the voltage comes up you know you need a new one.

That's not a diy job... Those seats love to drop out. A machine shop will install oversized ones and cut them to be centered with the guide.

I've seen people try to reinstall the seats and peen them in but it never ends well.

That's not how you test a fuel pump.

You need to check it plugged in to the truck harness while turning the key.

You need to check fuel pressure at the intake as well.

There's also a way to splice in fuel lines and a gauge to test fuel pressure directly at the pump.

But this is why mechanics charge.........
